Country: | Ten Unseen Benefits of Becoming a Domainer Ten Unseen Benefits of Becoming a Domainer The Internet is the chosen word-of-mouth data channel and service or product referral engine. We domainers are used to some of these perqs of being online commerce and naming czars, but there was a day long ago when we (yes, we) were simple netizens, toiling for our daily ducats in the "real world". 1. The Social Swim Domaining social dynamics can be most kindly described as a cross between mob self-rule and Romans at the banquet trough, with a smattering of the Lost Cities of Cibola thrown in. Between big-ticket treasure finds, however, there are those small siftings of name "gold" from the fast rushing rivers of Expiration Creek, Dropping Domains Rapids, and Auction Falls. *harmonica music plays* Keeping up with a fast-traveling herd of domainers on the run can leave one exhilarated, breathless, and about five hours behind on your work. Putting the spurs to this herd is done at one's own risk (and domaining health). But if you are looking for a sympathtic shoulder to cry into concerning your stubbornly immobile page rank, there is always someone up at 2 am that can sympathize with the evil search engine conspiracy against you. 2. You Learn How to Craft a Deal Deal making in domaining is like break dancing, you watch from the sidelines long enough and then you see an opportunity and jump in. You might get hurt, shamed, idolized momentarily, or damage your funny bone in the process. By watching others you can learn from their mistakes and mimic their better instincts. You can see what math adds and and what deals are not money-earners. The value of the deal becomes what you are willing to fight for, shifting elements in the deal and staking your own participation terms and deal turf. By sheer torque during a discussion one day with another domainer your conversation can become a negotiation of deal terms, project milestones, and delivery timelines. You get to know what certain products and services are worth. Or simply by out-arguing another domainer you may find yourself sitting in the driver's seat of a lucrative deal. With experience you get choosy, by experience you learn to stand up for yourself, from the experience you have, you craft a career. Win-win-win! 3. You Get Good at Analyzing Value Propositions Knowing the metrics of domaining becomes par for the course. The cost of hosting, the available free resources, SEO mechanizations, the purchase of domain names and resources involved in promotion and site marketing stop being nebulous unknowables and become variables that can be massaged for domain value increases and domain portfolio benefit. As a domainer becomes exposed to many different strategies and modes of website development, they can match their assessments and criteria evaluation with much more experienced (and successful) domainers. 4. Your Manure Detector Spikes (Manure used here as a synonym for a less family friendly term), the occurrence of manure style business dealings are seen in every stripe of commerce. But a special brand of manure can be flung into the mire on occasion in the domain world. The manure in domaining may be writ large, like a trademark squatting auction name blown out for a ludicrous price, or small, like fudgy deal terms that don't add up. Either way, sharpened senses keep a wise domainer out of the potholes of online commerce. 5. You Acquire Better Research Skills Comparing information is a varsity sport in the domain world. Usually there is one bright spark running around trying to be the first in show with the news about something. By trading bon mots with the fellow domainers online from around the world, your reach for information sites, media portals, blogs, content specialty sites, and industry channels gets whittled to the best of the best. Domainers' bookmarks are among the most incisive for data and e-resources among all web users. 6. You Learn How to Market Yourself After a while, a domainer will notice some of the same players getting the choice gigs. What's so special about them, you ask. Simple, really. They have well promoted websites and name launches, effective graphics and images, good use of slogans and tag lines, and are hip to the latest crimps in the deliberate randomness of the online world. By force of habit a marketing approach to offering services becomes part of the daily grind. 7. The Bandwagon Front Seat Domainers hear the tip of the iceberg of any launch message or new product or service campaign. Since an online website and media message is almost the preferred information and news jumping-off point, onliners hear about everything first (or maybe before that). Not only do beta tests and first run launches ride the rumor mill, but domainers can quickly and effectively understand why the new release or application edit is important. These two rivers of information running together makes for an extremely well informed and highly qualified individual for many projects, and its shows. 8. Great Industry Deals Taking the word of some over-caffeinated domain chatterbox that IBM is selling shares at three cents and a complimentary domain comes with fries at McDonald's is a given. But under the press to succeed in domaining, sometimes reputable sources claim unknowable offer terms. Many times something too good to be true will not happen. But as news and gossip gets passed around the domaining universe, there are incredible price breaks, deals, and insider offers. Hanging with a community of steers gets you on the inside track to where the water and tall grass is. 9. MultiEthnic NonPrejudicial Communication The community of domainers comes from all over the world and speaks every language of dotcom and dotbiz. While there may be problems in word for word translation, the glass ceiling and the color barrier come down. Domainers doing business might cross Communist, Islamic, and Judeo Christian boundaries in a manner that links right-thinking people everywhere while respecting diversity and the right to dissenting opinions. It's a hidden benefit of the online world that while formal geographic boundaries and political, social and religious cultural barriers exist, they can be overlooked whilst assessing an LLLL.net. 10. Open Parallellism of Corporate Culture Nobody in the domain world will walk up to you in the domain business and close the door in your face. You won't get held in reception doing business making websites and you won't get kept doing filing while the boys cruise the strip clubs with the CEO on "business". For every real-world incident of waste spending, old boy's club dead-end job you ever had (or may ever have), domaining cruises at whatever speed you set your path to. Nobody can limit your spending on gifts or costs, nobody's partners can stopgap your choice of best vendor, and nobody's contact culture can stop you from picking the best designer or collaborator.

Leaders and followers..with no followers...we have no need for leaders..and I guess vice versa...the way the world turns.
