Passing this on from a Chinese vendor of mine:
Dear Friends,
Like many of you I have been gluing my eyes on CCTV, Phoenix and CNN channels in the last two days watching the great rescue earthquake relief operations unfolding in Sichuan, China. Often my heart sank and my eyes unknowingly filled with tears as scenes after scenes of incredible devastations and human losses rolled over the TV screen.
Last night when I saw Premier Wen Jia Bao trying his best to comfort a group of orphans who just lost their parents, my wife and I wept. The little crying girls reminded us our two little grand daughters both adopted from China. Premier Wen wept. So were the officials who were with him.
Like some of you the quake stricken area is not that far from our birth places during the anti-Japan war era. Also, like some of you we have been going back there as tourists also attempted to find our roots.
A friend of mine in that category wrote to me yesterday very emotionally expressed his feelings. While we are all so saddened about what happened but seeing how expediently the Chinese government has responded to the relief effort and the modern resources that are being applied and implemented, we feel encouraged. My friend very movingly and philosophically said to me that if a disaster of this magnitude occurred during the Japanese invasion; needless to say many of us would not be here today. If there are any comforting thoughts on this terrible event, it has to be the ability and determination that have been demonstrated by the Chinese government and the Chinese people; and also the response and support by the worldwide Chinese.
Also like many of you wanting to show our compassion and support but could not identify reliable and transparent channels with easy access to submit our donations, I am here to recommend two options for you to consider.
Through the good work of CASEC (Chinese Association of Science, Economics and Culture of South Florida) an online donation process has been set up. The donations will be collected and sent to the PRC Consulate General in Houston. The donations are tax-deductible. Print out a receipt online or email your request to CASEC. (
