Hal with all due respect, I must say that is ridiculous. You can't even buy a 1 bedroom condo in many areas of the nation for high xx,xxx including in my area - which is not considered a high price place compared to many others. There are a number of places where 750K only buys a condo or older small house i.e. LA, Seattle, NY city and elsewhere.

The name was a steal and great bargain at $750,000. Easily worth 10 times that or more IMO.

Remember too that Rick owns Properties.com - while it's hard to put an exact figure on it, I am SURE that owning both i.e. having the full "footprint" in that niche is worth extra above and beyond the value of each of the two names considered individually. After all, for anyone searching down that route, it's Rick... or Rick!

Obviously, his prior ownership of the plural [Properties.com] domain played a role in Rick's decision.

I am not sure what the going rate for an upscale condo --anywhere --has to do with the matter.

However, it still looks like alot of money to me.

Re: Property.com Ties for #1 Sale of 2005 To Headline a Huge Week for Domains

Like I said before...what a great buy...If I had 750 large sitting in escrow I would have bought property.com 10 times over and then 10 more times without a pause...truly a great deal for Rick, he stole it! I can only think of a few better domains that exist on the internet that have such a broad market appeal in such a high value demographic online and off....WOW.

Fully developed it's got the potential to create a huge cash flow that certainly would more than justify that acquisition price.

Congratulations to Rick!

Ahh.. I would have taken the 4 payments of 250k. But, thats just me

Not true Gregr, content on Ebay is more like $10.

Re: Property.com Ties for #1 Sale of 2005 To Headline a Huge Week for Domains

i think property.com is worth about $250k

but if you want something really really bad, then you must over pay to get it....and that is exactly what the domain king did....he overpaid to get something he really really wanted.

big companies and people with lots of money will usually over pay if they want something really really bad.

domain king has nothing to worry about though....if he sits on this domain name for couple of years, there will definately be a big company or someone with lots of money who really really needs that domain name even more than he does...and they will definately buy that domain name from him for over 2 million or more.

for example: if ebay really really wanted that domain name property.com right now...they will keep making bids until the domain king sells....probably get more than 10 million from ebay easily!

Ebay paid about $415 million for rent.com because they really really wanted it.

anyways, good luck with the name!
