So let's recap, Elliot. Your friend used sedo and the sale was disclosed. What does evaluation of domains have to do with all this. The point is, you misunderstood sedo's modus operandi. If Moniker, Escrow.com, an attorney etc. don't work for you, I hear nobody said no to a suitcase full of cash (and I am referring to Mike Bahlitzanakis' way of buying domains).

sedo informed a friend that they would charge him 2.5% to keep a sale private, and he wasn't happy about it. In addition, I've done deals using sedo and Moniker for escrow only, and both reported my private sales since I didn't know to explicitly ask them not to disclose the sales. From my perspective, an escrow company reporting private sales is poor form. Likewise, asking 2.5% additional to not report a sale is poor form.

Some people think Sedo deserve the extra 2.5% because they've earned it, while others think it's a rip off. The recap is that I have a blog, and I chose to write an article combining both domain sale privacy issues and people discussed it from the privacy perspective and from the fee perspective. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and should be aware of costs/privacy issues when deciding where to do deals.

as is, i think the issue is with the title of the thread

it is misleading, because sedo may not charge a seller or buyer to keep a sale private.

it can also lead one to assume that those sales "which are not published", paid a fee to prevent disclosure.

    from sedo's perspective, imo....

it's in their best interest to publicize every sale if possible

"volume" speaks in this biz and competition is hot in the domain resale arena

if all reported sales were kept on the low, then this biz would appear to more stagnant than it really is.

so, if you want to reduce that "volume" by keeping your sale private, a cost can be justifiable if it potentially can affect/effect any aspect of their business negatively.

    imo...
