Exclamation Sedo removes Obama & McCain domains from its marketplace

In yet another hasty move, Sedo has inexplicably begun to remove political domains from its marketplace. It is uncertain how far the pattern searcher reaches, however Carolyn from the support department mentioned that their legal department decided to remove domains that contain the name of the US political candidates, Obama and McCain.

The rest of the scoop at my blog, Acro.net

Yep - they just blacklisted these 3 .com's from my account:

McCainJokes
ObamaJokes
McCainRules

So I threw the first two on eBay ....

I take great offense at this move by Sedo, especially as it's a blatant attempt to control the domain market outside of any truly objectionable material. Sedo did not offer an explanation when I said that these domains pulled valid ads related to politics from their Google feed.

Anyone with Palin/Biden domains got the same notice? I'm curious about the "brains" behind this censorship operation....

Take the words out of my mouth!!!

I just finished removing all my domains from Sedo, wasnt a big deal for me there parking program really sucks and they pay low, so I never use. Most of the doamins are parked with Parked.com and or developed PPC site.

I just listed them with Sedo for "sale exposure"

so no love lost I am sure for both parties!!

Beaware Sedo there will be a point in your future where you wish you didnt make dumb decisions especially agaist me.

Rich

Sad to see this... I used to own a name listed on this site list that was still listed on sedo, and i just got the blacklist notice.

Luckily, I let it drop a while ago.

Sedo is the "KING" of Parking and they can do whatever they want.... So they think.

All of us made Sedo what it is today, we can knock them down to size right now by doing one simple thing.... Pulling our domains!

This is not a big surprise to me. Technically these are tm domains (famous names) and they can be legally taken away. Although this is a very sudden random decision.

I would rather not take my domains off the biggest domain marketplace, unless you have a better choice. There other sites such as Afternic. However, Afternic already banned Gambling domains, adult, and many others.
