We only like censorship when we get to decide who and what gets censored. A forum owner deciding appropriate conversation on his forum does not fit my defiinition of censorship. A member deciding who can and cannot comment on their posts...that's a little more like censorship to me.

So what about political threads? it appears this is one area that posters have cart blanche to say whatever they want too about a political figure they dislike, posting real immature stuff like wishing the President or VP dead, is so far off the chart and yet nothing is ever done about it...I think this is one area where some guidelines need to be set, but I'm afraid if DNF did this, many would cry censorship, just like someone did a couple weeks ago when NP kicked him off there forum for posting political trash, which I'm glad they did.

I think it's the one area where no guidelines should be set. We would all have subjective ideas of who/what is fair to criticize. I like it the way it is, Enter at your own risk.

i think these types of comments should be censored like

So wishing someone dead is a subjective idea? were talking about 2 different things here, criticism and hate, "Hate" is what I'm referring to in the political threads, it hard believe your OK with this, If the LA Times, CNN or FOX allowed this trash, what do you think would happen to there ratings? I realize DNF is not a news source, but the end result is the same, more people will eventually tune out.

What do I mean by trash? I can find something close to this but I'll use this example instead, Someone posts "Bush is a F***ing **s*ole and should be hanged" We can all fill in the blanks, theirs profanity, theirs hate and theirs inciting the death of a US President, all in the same sentence, doesn't matter if your Democrat of Republican, it sends the same message, and you can find it on DNF, If I was a first time visitor here and came across a statement like that, my opinion of DNF would be very LOW.

Going back to Adams original post, he says he wants to make his forum more professional, how does he accomplish this and still allow this kind of trash in the political threads

Yep I'm with you on this. The whole point of this place is domains. There is a broad enough spectrum of people here that there are a lot of different opinions. There are other places to debate these things. Lets keep this forum a professional domain marketplace and resource.

Whilst I'm thinking aloud (in type)- along the points made earlier about private threads- would it be possible to have a 'sensitive names' area that was private, with some sort of non-disclosure agreement mandatory before entering? Haven't thought it through yet fully, just an idea.

Politics and religion are always going to come into play at some point. Simply by the very nature of this forum...words and domain names.

The politics and religion of adult names and pornographic material, IDN names, anti American names, anti president names, GOP vs. DEM…

Domain names are words and words therefore by their very nature can be inflammatory. Tolerence is the key here. By coming to the simple realization that this forum is made of many members representing many nations of the world as well as ages and races and languages and sexes, then there would be less of an issue regarding conduct. No, it would not be completely eliminated.

But I don’t think we can teach tolerance. Nor is this forum the place for teaching what we should already know and practice. That was the job of your familial upbringing and educators in life, not the members or moderators task.

Hey, I have had a few flaming threads. I cuss, I get pissed off. But there is one thing that I can not stand and have no tolerance for are those members who make fun of another member (hell, saying “make fun” is too soft)…who resort to the degradation and dehumanization of another member for being from another country, religion, or inability to speak or type English clearly.

Those are the members who I see as having no place in a global community (this forum) but should perhaps regulate themselves to seeking another forum who’s members practice those same beliefs and ideology of intolerance of any thing or any person not exactly like them.

It is those practices of blatant prejudice and discrimination that I feel need to be monitored and dealt with more harshly than any thing else.

I agree...but as Rodney King once said "Can't we all just get along"??...This is an exciting space we are in with a very bright future....let's just enjoy our time here, make some $$, have some fun, and leave all the BS at home...Everybody I think needs to unite in this effort to make this forum the one and only! I can sense that a lot of people are gonna start getting (if not already) tired of all this BS and just move on.....missing out on the unlimited potential this business has to offer....

A business forum without business arguments? There is already an infraction system in place and numerous moderators across the board, but laxism rules and some members can certainly do whatever they want without facing consequences. Swearing abuse can be really annoying and it's not business-related, more a matter of education.

The political section was created in an attempt to give members an area to discuss politics and I assumed it would help to keep those conversations out of sales threads.

I would agree that it should be "enter at your own risk" if it is maintained on the forum.

Political discussions are often passionate in nature, thus they tend to illicit emotions, and some have a hard time controlling them when the conversations gets heated.

If it requires moderation, then it forces a mod to review political discussions which they may have no interest in or they could be forced to "censor/mod" a post, which could be percieved as taking a position relative to the argument.

Often when a mod/Admin comments in a thread it is taken as the forums' position, not just as the "opinion" of that mod as a member!

Mixing politics and business can be hazardous to one's financial health...imo

Forum owners are free to establish and enforce whatever rules they wish. If members don't like those rules or don't want to abide by those rules, they can go find another forum where the rules (if any) are more appealing.

Failing that, those people can always create their own domain forum and establish whatever rules they see fit.

Well yea, but then again, only enforcing the *personal insults and attacks* would eliminate that problem of being looked at as if you're taking a side or not.

My personal rule is not to participate in political threads. Despite not hiding the fact that I am a liberal - in the good ole American sense - I believe that discussing politics while trying to engage in sales is a transaction destructor.

Its true that some sellers hesitate to post domains as the domains could be indexed by search engines, and also viewable by members at forum. Any educated buyer would search for the domains on domain forums & google to get an idea on the price.

What I suggest for this is, a "volatile" forum, where topics will be deleted or moved to a "moderators-only" archive forum once the sale is over. Further the forum should be accessible only by gold, platinum & exclusive members. This limits the users who dont need details of this sale, and also shd prevent search engines.
