Country: | Dnforum.com - New server upgrade for DNF Hi Members,
Just wanted to post an update on the Dnforum speed and server issue.
Today we have purchased a new server and will be migrating over to it later this week. I expect we will complete the migration late this week, early next week.
The new server specs include:
-Dual Intel Clovertown Quad Core Processors
-Linux platform, migrating away from Windows
-4000 GB Bandwidth
-8GB of Ram
This server should help performance issues and hopefully speed DNF right up.
Should also fix old hack issues as we will do a complete new install of the latest vb version and only install the current hacks in use. This should also solve any caching/login issues and the mysterious blank page issue that appears from time to time.
Will post more updates as the week goes on.

DNF$: 433 Location: New York | Other than migrating from Windows to Linux (for php only), I think you guys went with the wrong setup.
Unless you guys are running something in the background that is consuming memory, 8gb is just too much. I really have doubts about Vbulletin using that much memory.
Also, what about the quad core? Does php have the ability to distribute its load across multiple processors? I think the only thing in php that can use a second processor is asynchronous requests. Does php even support asynchronous requests?
Best of luck with the new server! |

Best of luck with the new server! | The current server is also quad core. PHP has the ability to divide its load amoungst the processors.
8gb is standard setup for that box. Nothing extra. We were going to go with 16gb to makesure we have maximum performance but 8gb is more then enough. Better to have more then not enough.

Best of luck with the new server! | Linux Enterprise will split the load as a core OS function. |
