Dnforum Site Changes - VB 3.5 Upgrade

Vbulletin is getting ready to stop supporting VB 3.0x and releasing their full new product VB 3.5. This could still be a month or two away.

As usual Dnforum.com likes to lead by example so sometime this week we will make the move to VB 3.5 as we feel after talking to vbulletin directly the current version is stable.

There will be lots of differences between the two systems.

The effect on the users will be that no hacks will work for about a week until they are all recoded to meet the new VB 3.5 standards.

So what will dnforum look like?

Well some of you will definitely be happy as we will be switching to the basic version of vbulletin, there will be no heavy graphics and no sounds on emails saying you have mail. I probably will not add back many graphics and the mail noise will not come back either.

You will see a very basic dnforum as we work to add many old features back in that you have now and we will also be adding many cool new addons as well.

You are also free to take a look through vbulletin.org and PM impactadmin or myself any cool new hacks you want us to add in. This is your chance to tell us what you want.

All the VB 3.5 addons and hacks can be found here:

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=109

Thanks again for your great support and continued patience in this difficult upgrade.

The exact date of the upgrade is not yet known but we will keep post before the upgrade is done.

Re: Dnforum Site Changes - VB 3.5 Upgrade

I use 3.5 RC3 and it is very stable from what I have seen so far. I just upgraded a week ago. Many hacks can now be installed as "plugins" or "products" which means their code is pulled directly into the source code when it is read by a browser, but you don't have to edit the source code. I managed to code and install 100% with plugins so far, which means upgrading will be a charm.

As far as I know, uShop won't be working for 3.5 for a few more weeks, so since DNF uses that you might consider waiting, but uCash is out already, so at least you can keep people DNF$ per posts going to them in the meantime..

Ok I'm rambling now, but those are some things to consider. Hope that hepls.

Re: Dnforum Site Changes - VB 3.5 Upgrade

vB has stated in their official forums that Gtalk and Gmail will be added when Google takes them out of BETA mode.

Great I was hoping for something like this, very useful, it's funny it's not included in vB by default though...

Re: Dnforum Site Changes - VB 3.5 Upgrade

Would you also consider fixing the SEO URLs so they resolve again? There are a lot of intraforum links that no longer work.

(By SEO URLs I mean the DNForum thread URLs that look like "im-selling-crappy-domains.html" instead of "showthread.php?p=12345")

Re: Dnforum Site Changes - VB 3.5 Upgrade

Yeah I noticed that when I found some DNF results in google. Clicked and got a 404. Would be nice if at LEAST they took us to the main page, which can easily be done with .htaccess depending what kind of server you are on.

i believe license comes with one year free updates, and can be renewed, so if Dnforum renewed membership, then probably no need to buy another license.

Re: Dnforum Site Changes - VB 3.5 Upgrade

I upgraded my forum today, without any problems..
But I only have 1 or 2 mods installed and they all worked fine with the gold release..

Forum name removed, if you want to advertise, do it in the right section.
