Is there a cookie problem? I've had to login twice now since the upgrade (Safari browser).
Make that three times (restarting the browser, and returning to DNForum forced me to login again, grrrrr).

It's not a good idea to make changes that invalidate the cookies and logins as this upgrade did (once again). Since I forgot my paswrd, to login required the paswrd recovery be used which itself is cumbersone and requires multiple emails sent and also requires you to remember which email address you used when you joined, not so easy to do if you have many email addresses.
Many members who visit only occasionally (or perhaps are negative lately toward dnf) probably would not even bother to use the paswrd recovery, and even if they did try they may not recall the email address they used long ago upon originally joining.
As a result I am sure the forum loses a percentage of its visitors every time this happens. I recall this happened several other times when the forum was upgraded. Seems odd dcg's programmer does not have a way to keep the old passwrds and cookies intact when upgrading.
Keep on doing these pawsrd required cookie lost upgrades long enough and eventually half the members will be gone. This may be a reason why some forums never seem to upgrade such as WeblasterWorld and a competing domain forum with the same version for ages from what I can tell. Personally, if I owned dnf I would rarely upgrade it. Why not leave it alone if its working well?

They do put out upgardes for a reason and they do expose security holes when they state why they upgrade.
That's the main reason for the upgrades, if others feel they shouldn't upgrade their forum that's their choice.
Here are a list of changes from vb3.6 to vb3.61
Changes of Note Since vBulletin 3.6.0
Admin CP News System - additional information beyond the latest version can now be delivered to you when you visit your admin control panel. We will be using this system to make you aware of product updates and other important company information. Once you have read a piece of news, you can "dismiss" it so it won't appear again.
Infraction System: Infraction Extension - when the same type of infraction is received twice, the second offense can now be tacked on to the first one, extending the length it's valid for. For example, a user is given an infraction for spamming posts that expires in 1 day. An hour later this user is given another spamming posts infraction. Since the user already had an active spamming posts infraction, this new infraction's expiration time is added to the end time of the previous infraction. Effectively, this new infraction will now end 1 day and 23 hours later instead of the default of 1 day.
Infraction System: Automatic Bans - users can now be moved to banned usergroups. A stepped system can be implemented such that increasing number of points or infractions results in lengthening ban perioids.
RSS Import Improvement - the RSS import system now handles several common but invalid RSS formats. Compatibility with character sets is also improved.
CAPTCHA for Guest Searches - you may now optionally force guests to prove they are human before searching
HttpOnly Cookies to Prevent XSS Attacks - certain cookies will no longer be available to JavaScript, which prevents many XSS attacks from stealing data. PHP has also accepted our patch to add this feature to PHP 5.2.0.
Podcast Improvements - several podcast options can now be set per thread rather than just per forum
"Search This Thread" Improvements - additional options are now available for when using "Advanced Search" from "Search This Thread"
-=DCG=-
and stuff you don't see in the front end, or are not so obvious:
We switched to a warning system that is now within VB instead of a third party addon and the signature issue that plagued us so long is now in vb so we had to back out the third party hack and use the VB built ones for stability.
the quick reply was also fixed.

I tried closing the site and returning 3 times and it wants me to login every time.

It's good in a way Adam that DNF is on the technology cutting edge, even though I am not sure all the tech supt issues (which always seem to last a long time) make it all worthwhile.
With that said, maybe you should ask vBulletin if there is a way to keep the old cookies when upgrading to avoid login issues and some members likely leaving for good rather than trying to get a new paswrd.
