Re: Domain Stats Verification - Discussion Only

Would 24 hours really give the DNS servers time to sync up?
Also wouldn't 48 be better as it gives the world two tries at the domain.
If you tested on different religions day of rest or worship you might not get the right traffic. (Saturday or Sunday for most).

Might I also add that you could offer more value (i.e. it would cost more) if you produced a report on the domain giving all of the whois change history.
It would be cheaper than getting a membership to all of the databases on a per name basis.

Sort of like a Carfax report on the domain complete with traffic stats!

Interesting, even if a 24 hour analysis is far from representative, IMHO, and as mentioned above, doesn't allow global DNS change propagation / replication to occur.

That being said, it could be revealing not as any sort of serious traffic analysis, but at the very least a simple test for obvious traffic manipulation schemes.

I wouldn't do it. My traffic isn't free and neither is the intel you will pick up from testing the name. Would definately be valuable data you would collect if you had a lot of people verifying with you.

Exactly... I don't think this is a good idea because it's just going to create more of a hassle for everyone.

There is no chance you would risk losing the domain by pushing the domain especially with DNF's reputation on the line.

This is a great way of verifying stats for the domain before you conduct your transaction.
I think this is a great idea. Though I cant for the world of me imagine why you would want the name pushed over, when changing the nameservers would be easier for both parties.. This would only make sense if you wanted to start an escrow service..

Another problem is that GoDaddy dont allow transfers for 60 days after the whois has been changed.. A account change would hence hamper the sellers options afterwards..

    Just my 2 cents..

Re: Domain Stats Verification - Discussion Only

not to dis your idea Adam, but 24 hours will not give a true reflection of stats unless the domain is parked on a fastdns system.

In fact domains hosted on name servers in the Eastern Part of the world tend not to update even after 48.

Perhaps what would be the ideal situation is this:

DNF to Host a Sales DNS service.
User Registers the Domain on the DNS (they should still have the ability to set the A Records to their Parking Program of Choice also the MX records)

After 48 Hours the User Can list the domain for sale.

Offers can be made pending domain stats.

Stats Posted Automatically on the Thread at 6 or 12 Hour intervals.

Once offer is accepted, the buyer will have due diligence with the complete stats recorded by DNF.

It is a long process, and would be very much buyer centric.

(this can be achieved using SimpleDNS)
