I would like to receive a "subscription" email for all new threads with a laundry list of keywords in their title or first post ... and it would be wonderful if this subscription could be limited by forum as well ...
There are topics of interest that I would love to be notified about that I sometimes miss due to a lack of time ...
Equally importantly, I would love to be able to be notified of new threads in the various For Sale forums by keyword topic ... there are days that I just do not have time to dig through all of the new For Sale threads, but if I received an email message with a list of threads with keywords I was interested in, I would probably take the time to review each of those threads ...
This might also be a benefit to those that sell domains ... it might expose their domains to a larger audience that just does not review those for sale forums ...
Anyway ... that is a tool I would love to see and a tool that would bring me back to the forum on days that I otherwise would not have the time to visit ...
Thanks,
Greg
Do You Have A Plan Contextual Links
I'm not impressed at all with the new design.
The text color (menu) in the header is too fading that I could hardly read them. And yeah, I agree with some others that the red slider is abit irritating after some time.
Also, login form should be somewhere near the top, not the bottom. Else new user will have a hard time searching for it.
What I suggest:
- Use better and clearer font and color for menu
- Omit the slider
- Make use of CSS more
- Omit the iframe
- Have a footer since you have a header
- Better color scheme
Adi, as Adam has already pointed out, that's not the final design version, it's just a preview for testing purposes.Originally Posted by adiboy
Hmmmmmm....... I dont like it. It is losing the essence of being a forum. Even the new thread making thing is annoying. Stop trying to make it like Afternic and such, leave it as it is - a forum.
As long as your going to be thinking anyway, think big.
The forum will still be directly accessible.Originally Posted by mibamars

I prefer the forum as well, versus the portal atmosphere.Originally Posted by GeorgeK

I prefer the current look.
Getting back to DCG's request for tool suggestions, I have one...
A combined Wordtracker/Overture tool like the one at :
http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/
The one at DP works fine, but their server is often very slow...
Since you've already placed a link to the Overture keyword tool in your new menu, maybe you can enhance it by adding the Wordtracker results. This is especially useful since the Overture results have often been skewed by bots or other external events, so the side-by-side comparison with Wordtracker helps to show a more accurate/realistic view...

What about a LLL.ccTLD generator?
Pretty simple but very useful to check all LLL in any ccTLD since they`re booming.
Thank you

Adam,
I know you and your staff are doing your very best to make DNF better...but it seems like each addition is moving us backwords. The new auction system was a solid idea on paper...but it has been really unsuccessful, judging by the quality, quantity and price of names sold on it. The forum style has worked very well for DNF for years...and I think it makes more sense to add new tools and features to help domainers rather than trying to turn DNF into something its not.
You all know I love DNF and plan to stay here for a long time. I am convinced scaling back all of these massive "improvements" and going back to the simple forum-style domain buying and selling system will be more profitable and easy for the majority of the members in the future.
As I said, I applaud you for trying to improve DNF, but I think the best way to do this is keep the forum running smoothly, attracting new members and adding new tools and events for DNF members to participate in and use.
That will truly make DNF a better community![]()
I couldn't have said it any better. You summed up my exact thoughts.Originally Posted by GT Web
I'm all for improving the forum with tools, contests, et al, but the forum concept is the foundation of the site.
is "key"attracting new members

The essence of dnforum is that it's a vibrant discussion community - we can get our fill of domain tools from any number of sites, but a critical mass of domainers such as is present at dnforum is much less easy to find!
Why not have 2 sites rather than one, but with a shared membership system? One, dnforum, is a lean, mean forum - fast loading, clean, simple, easy to navigate and follow discussions on. The other regroups all the tools and services you're dreaming up, and would be the launchpad for all future initiatives in that direction.
JapaneseDomains.com - cheap .jp registrations, English language interface, no local presence required. Alphabetic & IDN names supported. Bulk pricing available.
I think that is what they had in mind. the "home page" will have tools, and the forum can be bookmarked by current members with a url like dnforum.com/forum.php or whatever, and then we would not have to go to the home page unless we wanted to...Originally Posted by Edwin
BTW Adam, I can get you the html code that you can use directly in your page without an I frame for Archive.org. I have done it before, and it is not that hard...
http://www.geocity.org/archive/ see that, you can use the code

A few suggestions:
Domain sales threads tiered by asking price
-$100 or less
-$100-1000
-$1000+
This would solve many problems:
1) less clutter
2) people will browse in different sections according to their budget
3) Newbie sellers will get to see what reasonable prices for their domains are, and will be less likely to clutter the forum with domains with RIDICULOUS asking prices
