Re: Major change: Auction / Live Auction being added

Anyway, this is a good try. I bet we can figure out a best way to make it perfect. It is already amazing though. We can say DNF now is more than a forum.

Re: Major change: Auction / Live Auction being added

I think the new auction format is great. The only aggravation I see is where people post caveats like "... I reserve the right to withdraw ...". I think in this particular format, these caveats should not be allowed. It's not like on eBay where you can say that the dog ate your item or it's been damaged.

My view is that if you commit a domain to auction, you shouldn't be able to withdraw it. That would make the new auction system more attractive in my opinion. E.g. once you had placed a bid, you knew that you were going to win the auction unless you were outbid.

Make sense?

I second that. The DNF Terms of Service should include additional rules for the new auction system to make sure bidders really get the domain for which they placed the highest bid.

On the other hand, is there a possibility to implement a reserve price option to the auction system?

Can you explain that a bit more please?
It appears that you can have a start price and a BIN price
Unlike ebay, the BIN remains after bids are received.
Good.

However, do you mean that if you set both a start price and a BIN price, the reserve can be the BIN?
So all bids are off unless the BIN is reached?
Or do you mean the Start or Open price is the reserve and the domain must be sold at the end of the auction to the highest bidder in excess or equal to the Open price regardless of the BIN?

What about Open Price "Best Offer"?
Does that mean the domain must be sold at the end of the auction for the best price that is bid?

Please excuse me if I appear confused.

Re: Major change: Auction / Live Auction being added

If I may suggest...
I think you should reconsider the No "Ends ?? hours after the last post" rule.
As we have MANY members here from Australia...Asia...Europe I use this many times to include them in the auction. If someone in HongKong knows they will have to get up at 3:30 am to be a part of a closing auction they are much less likely to enter into the auction. I have had many good results as a seller by being permitted to include our global community rather than just our US and Canadian members. Keep all involved...

Stops snipes as well which I really don't believe are in the "spirit of the game".

Just something to chew over with your Cheerios...

Re: Major change: Auction / Live Auction being added

Great start on this system DCG. I haven't fully read up on it, but from what I can tell it is just what was needed in the community. Like Jaydub points out, I hope there is an anti-snipe system in place like snapnames. I think that is the way to go.

I am a bit confused on this topic as well, even when I listed a domain, I was not sure which one to choose.
All in all, the auction is a great addition to a great website and looks nice!

Re: Major change: Auction / Live Auction being added

Unfortunately, while this system looks great on paper, in practice I doubt it will accomplish much. In domain auctions on DNF, it seems people always list their names with massive starting prices...For example, CarLegends.com was just listed for $30,000...and I can't make a lower offer under this new system.

It seems there was some confusion.

The BIN is not referred to as the reserve price.
There is no reserve option as of yet.
We have contacted the programmer of the software to see if we can have some custom work done.

Will post an update asap.

I disagree, the seller has now clearly stated what he wants for the domain, if he wanted lowball offers he would have started the auction lower. The auctioner does not want you to offer any less that the posted starting price.

This serves the exact purpose.
