Re: NameMedia Acquires Afternic

Agree: DomainSponsor is definitely generating a lot of buzz on their own.......DomainSponsor is a pretty smart company.....they plan ahead.

DomainSponsor has their own plans. It looks like they are going direct to domainers with their DOMAINfest conferences, while continuing to sponsor TRAFFIC conferences.

I don't see the industry disappearing, but it is certainly being shaken up.
ok, thanks for telling me.

What I mean about disappearing, is, if I sell out say, for 2 years revenue, my entire set of names, in 2 years they will be in profits (generics are more years then tm names, I know), then if I don't reinvest, what will happen with that 2 years revenue? Not much. If we sell out everthing, we better have a plan on how we will keep our finances together, such as new domains, seo, etc, but again, new domains will be expensive, so is that a route we want to go? I would rather keep my names for the time being.

Re: NameMedia Acquires Afternic

Recent market price:
generics 30~50 years revenue (sometimes even more)
TM typos 2 years revenue or less
WIPO loosing rate of TM typos: about 0.1%/month on big portfolios

I don't think Afternic is for them some remarkable traffic source

Re: NameMedia Acquires Afternic

You could see this coming when Afternic eliminated all adult and gambling domains. I knew they were doing this for a reason... and this is why, evidently.

No, my generic idns make about $30 a day, but i estimate revenue to increase at least 10 folds in 5 years. Most of my top earners are top 20 or top 10 keywords in their respective languages...

9 mths of hardwork, searching and registering idns. As a domain newbie, i was lucky to have that drive. Anyway, long way to go, so time to sleep now. :greensleep:

Re: NameMedia Acquires Afternic

My favorite quote from their announcement, "...Afternic's Domain Name Marketplace has in excess of 1.8 million premium domains available for purchase..."

1.8M premium domains? They might have 25k that might be considered premium and that's probably pushing it. Most are junk or mediocre. Who are they trying to fool?
