I certainly get it, and I think that being able to laugh at yourself is one of the healthiest signs of a democracy and its institutions. It's just a part of freedom of speech, and I'm amazed that anyone could take DomainGang to be a serious site. It couldn't be clearer unless they put a big logo of a tongue in a cheek in the header.

I think that any person or site made the subject of one of their articles should be immensely flattered, and the very fact that they put that about DNForum just points up how ridiculous is the idea that it might be shutting down - which I imagine is the whole point of the article.

PS. I can't find redicous in my dictionary. It's great to learn a new word, but in case it turns up in the Reader's Digest Word Power quiz, maybe Adam could tell me what it means?

You can't, for example, yell "fire" in a school, movie theater, etc. That being said, I was one to support your ability to post as you deem fit, until you decided to disrespect the owner of the venue in which you do so, by commenting on his spelling error. IMHO, that showed very little class.

You are quite wrong. I would never disrespect anyone by deliberately commenting publicly on a spelling error. In fact, whenever I come upon anything like that on a website I always contact the owner privately in case he or she would like to amend the typo.

I was unaware the word was a typo until contacted this morning by someone from the forum. My ego isn't so big that I think I know every word in the English (or even the American) language. I genuinely 'collect' interesting new words, as do many others - which can be seen by the proliferation and popularity of books nowadays containing them.

After my PS about the word, I googled it and saw that it is reasonably commonly used in the sense used at the head of the thread. I have therefore been glad to register it this morning, as it may have some value later as a cultural dictionary word.

Yes, from a philosophical perspective I concede your point, but not a legal one. Thus, the multitude of U.S. Supreme Court cases (obviously not controlling in your jurisdiction) with regard to the many exceptions that exist. You can find those by searching WestLaw or Lexis. The argument is not protected speech and I have no qualms about defending freedom of speech in general.

As an editor in chief, it is my duty to screen first myself and then the writings of others, prior to publication, much like any other publication would. This time, certain boundaries were crossed and that's what this thread is about.

I could care less if some of you don't find DomainGang.com humorous. My humor appreciation is different from that of others and I grew up with tongue-in-cheek humor as I had a British educational upbringing.

An apology, however, is not real if it's not displayed in a wholehearted manner. In other words, I am not here to defend DomainGang, its writings or claim my stake in the domain industry. This post, was made to offer an apology to Adam and those that - for reasons of their own - perceived the article to be a real event leading to DNF closing down.

As the editor of DomainGang.com I'd like to offer my deepest apologies for the article that went live, stating that you're closing down DNForum.

The article was written and published by Tia Wood, who's written other pieces using the "Giovanni Mossolini" moniker. She's a good person despite this lapse of judgment on her part, with regards to the specific article. I appreciate her stepping in to disclose she was the writer of the article; going against her own wish to remain an anonymous contributor to DomainGang.com

I would like to convey the message to you, the readers of DomainGang.com and to the DNForum users that despite all the disclaimers present in that article, it was definitely a topic and subject that should not have been published.

However, it is my full responsibility that the article went live in my absence, despite having handed content-writing authority to Tia during my short trip.

I would like to assure everyone that more caution will be demonstrated in the future, to ensure that parody will be careful and well-defined, instead of going for the "shock factor". Yes, we screwed up big time with this one.

I appreciate the kind comments supporting DomainGang.com in this thread; I appreciate those that were upset as well and voiced their thoughts. It's heat that I will gladly take, in order to improve on what started as a fun project. I appreciate Tia Wood's contributions throughout these two months and her disclosure in public.
