Threads now to expire 30 days after last post

I have now set up a test forum to expire threads 30 days after the last post so that they can no longer be brought back to life.

It is only setup in this forum as a test:

http://www.dnforum.com/f27/

please post comments, the days can be set to 60 or 90 if you like.

Here is a test thread from 2003 for you to try and post in.

I'm still waiting for you to fix the darn footer

There is extra space and dash between Archive and Sitemap (makes me crazy so I don't scroll all the way to the bottom)

Exclusive: 90 for everything
Platinum: 30 for everything
Gold: 30 for everything

Then just have a "Bring-it-Back" request for an extension (MOD approved) if it is still something that could create worthwile discussion on an ongoing basis.

Re: Threads now to expire 30 days after last post

I think we do not need such a feature for the discussion forums. This should only apply for the promotional forum sections, e.g.:

Exclusive Section
Private Sales

Platinum Section
All forums except "Platinum Lounge"

Gold Section
Domain Appraisals
Domains Wanted
F$ Sales

I think 30 days is good for all of these. The discussion forums should not be affected by this, imo.

What do you think?

Re: Threads now to expire 30 days after last post

Is it possible to set it up to expire 30 days from the thread creation date instead of the last post?

You don't want to do that as some strings last more than 30 days and are quite active and you don't want it shut down mid stream.

Why do expire ? Just show the date when the thread has been started and let us decide, if we click it or not...

Re: Threads now to expire 30 days after last post

Excellent idea.....30 days from last post on sales/auction/appraisal threads...

I think discussion forums probably have a longer life line, depending on their relevancy, and should be 90-120 days.

Jim

(Can anyone tell me why I can't edit my post?)

(I just wanted to add that it is still good humor when someone happens to inadvertantly dig up an old thread and posts "HHG.net---Sold for $175")

Adam It would be good to archive some of the oldest posts as they are fun to look at and get a great feel for the history of the forum, it's original members, and how domain names have evolved or appreciated. Put it in a time capsule someplace and make it available to members on request. Would be a shame to cancel history.

I think legal issues should be permanent if possible. It seems that the same issues always repeat themselves.

I'm with this view. There's been many disscussion threads that we've brought back to life even a year later, especially when something significant has changed in the original topic. Makes it more fun to be able to bring discussion threads back to life.
