What does the local new have to do with your success?

Watching the local news - That's a great use of your time, presented in a one hundred percent problem format.

No one watching the news cares that you sales numbers are up, or that Wendy got a promotion, or that Jordan got straight A's on his report card. Good news does not sell; therefore it's omitted.

Rather, what you get is distorted, negative information about two or three percent of the people affecting those who view it in the worst way.
If you watch an hour a day of problems, everyday for years, you become problem oriented.

Do you think local news add or detracts from your sales skills? How about your business skills? How about your life skills?

The news is popular because most people that watch it lack focus or direction, or are miserable and looking for something or someone more miserable than they are - I guess to make them feel better.

Still think the local news is important, How many of you can look in the mirror and say "I'm successful today, I am where I am today , because of the local news."

Here's a wakeup call: Let's say you have been watching the news for half hour a day for the past year. That's 7.5 full 24 hour days you spent watching problems. In five years that's 38 full 24 hour days . In terms of a 40 hour work week, that's 23 weeks every five years.

Now imagine the possibilities if you diverted that energy in a positive direction. Imagine what you could do with that time, and accomplish in that time, if you put it to productive use.

As a quick example, if you instead spent 15 minutes a day reading and learning about a topic of interest, in one year you could be an expert in that topic and help your business or your family.

Which do you think is a more powerful use of your time: Watching other people's problems or investing in yourself and creating plans and solutions for you or your business.

The next time you say "I don't have enough time" substitute the phrase with "I don't choose to spend my time in that manner." It's closer to the truth. The real truth is you're not investing your time in the most important people in the world - You and your family or your own business.

Take your hour a day and convert it into a positive action or learning for yourself, your job, your business and your family. At the end of the year, you will have captured more than 15 full 24-hour days building your future.

    Bad day today, Adam?

You could insert any activity other than "local news"...gym, walking the dog, even reading or DNF...as a time waster to some.

Its a matter of balance and time management. No matter the task(s), job(s), studies...it boils down to time management.

No, not really, I wanted to post this for a while but lacked time.

There is not much positive to be gained by local news, at least a sitcom can amuse and entertain you.

Agree, (local)news, (local)magazines, flyers etc. sometimes contain snippets of information that can be used in domaining or building a site. But, since years we don't have tv in our home, it's easy to get used to and the freed time can be spend otherwise.

Better yet, make the local news yours. We are very active in the community with charitable work and therapy dog programs.

In addition, my wife has recently started her own dog training endeavor sponsored by a group of local vets. They supply the training facilities, my wife is free to charge whatever she wishes to charge, and the vet group get 25% of that. Yes, my wife keeps 75%, pays no rent, no lease.

Already this association has produced many new clients for both my wife and the vet group. The facility that my wife does the training is also the largest boarding kennel in Winston-Salem as well as provides grooming services. Many of my wife's clients are now clients of the groomer and the boarding kennel. Additionally, dogs MUST have all shots and updates to be part of the class primarily due to contact with other animals being housed in the same facility. So there is an additional revenue for the kennel, the vet, and the groomer that they did not have.

There has been quite a bit of talk of this partnership and relationship in the local community. Responsible pet owners and well behaved pets are the primary driving force for this endeavor. I have no doubt that this whole matter will soon make the news.

Best of all, it was the vet group that approached my wife about this relationship. They wanted to convey responsible pet ownership and well behaved dogs in the community. Already a product sold in relationship to aide in training and behavior has been featured on two different local news broadcasts (Thunder Shirts). I can assure you no one around here had ever heard or seen one of these until last year when my wife first used it on one of our dogs. She has been selling this (at cost) to her students for well over a year. Both local news reports on the Thunder Shirts have just aired within the past month. No doubt in my mind that this is a direct effect to my wife introducing it to so many clients who have purchased this (perhaps 100-150) locally.

That is what I mean by creating the news and becoming part of the news. The benefits for me are also measureable in terms of site, backlinks, other merchants wanting to advertise on our site, etc. I am holding off contacting major sponsors (like a dog food company and product manufacturers) to not only sponsor the site but sponsor my wife. With the vet group's endorsement, I feel confident this will come.
