Changing domain name on active site and search engines

I am thinking of changing domain name on one of my very active sites. How will that affect my listing on Google? Will it update pretty fast with the new domain name? Any tips?

    Thanks!

If you are ranking well for more than a year , you'll be effected really really bad , I think there was a redirection for this to pass the strenght of your site to the new domain.(I remember it to be redirect 301 but have look).
    But it would be risk.
I have a catched domain the owner dropped cause he bought keyword1keyword2.com and my domain is keyword1-keyword2.com and I am ranking on the first place on google
There are more than 200 factors for ranking in google search the redirection method carefully.

Don't do it! Many people have been burned doing this. When you switch your website to a new domain name you will have to go through Google Sandbox for at least a year before you start receiving decent traffic.

if your site is very active, then why change names?

keep the name and develop the other, and put a link on your active site to it.

then you may have "two" very active sites!

and so on and so on...etc.

    imo
