Curious about Search Engine Rankings

A web site I have ranks in the #3 on Google (a web site with links to me is #1) and actually occupies all three top spots on Yahoo.

What make the same site not so highly ranked on MSN (30th)?

Also, if you know...

with a substantial increase in traffic and a very nice alexa ranking of 2,216,237, why would the site fall in PR rankings rather than increase?

Re: Curious about Search Engine Rankings

While Alexa and traffic are related, Google PR is a complex algorithm that takes into account the number of incoming links, domain history, length of registration, IP sharing (or lack thereof) etc. Usually an Alexa trend tells more than the number itself e.g. if it jumped 2 million places in a week that'd show a large increase in traffic.

"very nice alexa ranking of 2,216,237"

Euh? This is a very bad ranking.
The type of ranking you get just working in your site.

...

All the SE don't use the same algo, it's rare you can be top ranked for the 3 SE and the same keywords.

Re: Curious about Search Engine Rankings

To go from not being ranked in Alexa (which I believe is a min. 5 mil) to anything I would think is a step in the right direction.

Give me time to knock the giants ebay, yahoo, and google off the ladder.

Mainly curious about the MSN thing and an overall 40% increase in traffic and users already this year but no movement in PR rankings.

Yahoo is doing me right along with Google.
