    google... Indexing Flash??!

After reading this article... im not sure whether to believe it or not... the almightly monopoly we now know as google has gone one sep further into our page content that it now can read Flash???

currently on the homepage of http://www.sitepronews.com.

I've always avoided Flash because I prefer SEO to cosmetics.... is it a time to burn the habit?

    Re: google... Indexing Flash??!

I have 4 sites that i designed 100% flash and rank in top ten of what the client wanted to be listed for.....flash has nothing to do why would it, unlessed it is not published the right way....flash files have keywords when published.

saying flash effects search engines is like saying images do...nonsense

I dont understand the myths or the unwillingness to embrace flash.......
in years to come the web will be more alive and interactive (more tv like) rather then looking like pages from a book....

has the flash content indexed by google?

ive always been given the impression that the flash content is compiled into something that only makes sense when viewed by us

    Re: google... Indexing Flash??!

Well its not indexed the same but if you have good meta tags and title
    thats the first part .

Then make your title of the swf file relevant to what your selling or whatever.

So your not gonna have tons of text in your page that engines will pick up but why would you want to.

In my opinion flash is better because in a search engine listing its gonna say under the link simply your title and keyword description or keywords not a section of your page.

For example if flash was bad why are there tons of sites in top ten that are 100% flash ?????? dont know?

In my opinion to make a full flash site usually is geared for a certain type of site not like a portal or anything so dont know what the fuss is.

The engines know whats there maybe minimally but to much crap can be bad too...just depends what the site is for.

I can stand typing something in and wanting the main page theres 10 or so pages indexed that shouldnt be..... unless you want all pages indexed use the robots=index,no follow tag.

Im not God nor seo guru,,, all in all this is just my opinion

In my opinion, flash is useless, only because I have never seen a situation where more products are sold on a site (other than one offering web design) where flash is used.

    Re: google... Indexing Flash??!

again as I said depends what its for ...surely you wouldnt have google all in flash or ebay, but for an entertainment, fashion, or anything thats non portal why not.

The main reason people avoid flash is based on download time and if people have the plug in to begin with...but eventually it wont be an issue within time .

I was designing when flash came out and it was the hardest thing getting people to want it cause of size but now hey ..get a faster line is the mentality of
"certain type" of sites ...music, fashin, entertainment, gaming..... but for say adult sites , and big sales sites portal then i agree make sure that old lady with a 10 year old pc on aol running i.e 3 can get on

so if someone is just undecided and not sure then just make a hybrid sites like
so many others, or have 2 versions, have flash sniffers so if they dont have flash which "most people do anymore, I would hope" they will see an alternative image. best of both worlds

as far as that article thats always been possible... you can also type in cat.jpg or dog.gif or even 1.pdf and get results, with that your arebetter off relying on your keywords and title and maybe some blind text.

forgot to mention actually looking up something on the basis of swf is just flat out dumb for 2 reasons:

Not everyone labels their swf.file relevant to the site.

And The big problem with this is your are pulling up the file most of the times not the page so your looking at this swf file only and dont have any control over it as far as how its layed out it may be oversized, not embedded.
