How can I find out why it is ranked so high? and also what can I do with it to keep the high rank and build a site with it.
Thanks for the help.
You should build a web page with all still existing links asap. Also wise will be using archive.org to check the old site.
You need to build a website on the domain, with content. As far as links, use marketleap, or another backlink checker to see if there are still incoming backlinks.
Chances are however the PR will be lost on the next update (Supposedly going on now) since the name dropped.
check backlinks and see wher the pr is from, it might be fake as well![]()

how can a page rank be fake?
By placing a redirect of the domain you are trying to get PR for to a high PR website. IE: www.jadfj.com redirected to Google.com.
Here is a fake pagerank detection tool http://www.seologs.com/pr-check/pagerank.html
Using archive.org you can see the old content of the site, even the links page. So you can just copy and paste all links. If you don't see the history of your domain is the bad sign(most PR6 sites have a history) Pr6 domain without history already smell fishy. Anyway, next step you can use any link popularity checking tool to find all existing links
I personally recommend using my tool:
www.checkpagerank.net
you can see if the pagerank is faked and the backlinks as well.
And at the end you can check info regarding your domain and backlinks using google search.
Hopefully it will be useful.
Regards,
well if the PR is fake, is there anyway that I can convert that fake page rank to something real? Meaning can I take advantage of the fake PR (if it is) and use that to keep the site high?
Yes you could trick webmaster in exchanging links with you etc... but that would b e pretty bad IMO
Signature cannot exceed 3 lines
Most probably the PR that you are now seeing will be lost at next update. It is Google policy that once a name drops, the PR is lost. I would concentrate on checking the backlinks to the domain to see if these offer usefull traffic.
You might lose the PR on next update but you might not if you're quick. At any rate I'm sure G will take all existing links into account, the next time it indexes your website
Try your best to keep it cos PR6 can be tough to gain from scratch!
Good luck
