Google refuses to put AdSense on my site .. but why ?

I recently opened a site that shows overture historical results.
I wanted to put AdSense on it, and asked Google for it.

This is what Google told me:

Thank you for your interest in Google AdSense. After reviewing your application, our specialists have found that it does not meet our program criteria. Therefore, we are unable to accept you into our program.

We have certain policies in place that we believe will help ensure the effectiveness of Google ads for our publishers as well as for our advertisers. We review all publishers, and we reserve the right to decline any application. As we grow, we may find that we are able to expand our program to more web publishers with a wider variety of web content.

Please note that we may not be able to respond to inquiries regarding the specific reasons for our decision. Thank you for your understanding.

Now, I think there are 2 possible reasons for this rejection:
1. They don't want to put ads on a site with "Overture content", since they are their competitors.
2. They don't like that fact that yahoo.com has higher overture then them on the "leaders table" that appears on the site.

Any other thoughts ?
Anyone else got rejected in the past for no real reason ?

Am sure they do not care about the competitors you mentioned, especially since they are #1 well ahead of Yahoo and Overture anyway.

They likely look at when it was first reg'd and since it's newly registered 2 days ago they probably only accept you providing it is a larger site with a lot more content and some other attributes too.

G is probably strict when it comes to new applicants with a 2 day old domain, and no traffic history or SE rankings.

P.S. In fact, other sites who refer to or are about Yahoo and OV have adwords from Y and OV so G makes $ sending business to them.

Could be, but if that was the case, they should have told me to try again in a few months, or say they will look into it again in the future ..

They turn down a lot of people the first time around. Just keep trying.

Google wants content (a.k.a. words); and apparently what I saw on OvtHistory.com does not suit their needs. Remember? they are selling ad inventory of AdSense placements; and relevant content is very important.

Funnily enough, when I first joined Adsense I didn't realise that you had to "qualify" and I submited a brand new vBulletin forum site, with no content, no members and no posts, all I had done was install vBulletin and a skin.

It took them over two weeks, but they still approved me!

I think sometimes it is just down to luck, and/or the mood of the "reviewer"...

Do you mean you didn't even have forums names set up but just forum 1, forum 2, forum 3, etc.?

Well no, I think I had actually set up the forum titles and descriptions, and maybe posted a welcome message, but that was about it. I was very surprised that they accepted it...

Yeah! Like I said, they want words. Forum titles and descriptions - coherent (e.g. you won't want something like rocket science and dog food on the same page) and relevant - are good enough.

Once you have an Adsense account, you can use that for as many websites as you want, then you dont need approval for new sites. Or do I have it wrong??

Well that's what I've been doing, and I've never been told otherwise! ;-)
