Google webmaster tools isn't verifying my sites - DNForum - Domain Sales, Domain Forum, Domain Appraisals, Domain Registrars

I upload the file named what G told me to name it with this code:

<html><body>
test
</body></html>

(Simple HTML file) and I can click on the link to see this page get pulled with each domain but most of them won't verify. Does this take time (should I try again tomorrow?).

I have had problems getting them to verify using the upload method. Have you tried using the meta tag verification method? I have had good results using that.

I haven't yet - I'm trying to get several sites added (20+). I'd rather not go though and change every index. page.. :(

Most of my older sites are verified, though, and I'm using the same file.

Edit; Some seem to be verifying now, maybe I needed to wait a little longer.

It takes 7 minutes and 42 seconds for the signal to go from your PC to Google headquarter processing department providing the weather is good.

Wow, you'd think they'd be faster. Maybe they need that 10MbpS card I found the other day.

Interesting error with one of my pages:

The meta tag method works perfectly and also instantly with the verification done the moment you click the verify button. It does not take 7 minutes. Johnn was joking I am sure.

Re the 404 issue that is correct in that a 404 error must return a 404 status and can not return a 200 code. You need to setup your htaccess and make a 404 htm page file to correct that problem.

I use file upload. name as suggested by Google. Inside the file the same as the name.
