I have had this site up for several weeks now and I am really trying to focus on getting links to it. what are some good suggestions to make that happen

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I want to have links pointing to my site to get more traffic. So, adwords would be a pretty good idea but I don't want to have adsnse on my site because I don't actually want people to leave my site.

2) Directory submission service (i used before - not using them now a days)
3) link exchange (exchange links with relavent sites)
4) Submitting articles to Article directories/blogs
5) Getting wordpress or directory templates and distributing them
there are lot more ways to do the link building (Time/Engery/money will get you links)

linkedkeywords.com is about using the semantic nature of search engines, as well as people's inclination to stumble on things.
Speaking sof stumbling, social bookmarking sites, like StumbleUpon should do nicely for you.

The best way to get people to link to you is to put up great content. I write an entertainment blog. I put up a story about an actor, then I hit up the fan sites and tell them, they link back to my story.
Good, linkable content not only gives you the link but gets you the traffic from a related source that hopefully will stick around your site going forward.
There is various methods. Article marketing, directory submissions, blog commenting, to name a few.
