Jumping around on Google

I have gradually moved up to about number 65 spot in google over the last 10 months and thats where I sat for the last few months. A couple days ago I jumped to the number 3 spot and I was there for about 2 days. I was all excited because I figured I was out of the sandbox. Now I am back around the number 65 spot. I cant figure out why I jumped 62 spots like that for 2 days and then was put back. I have done nothing to my website for at least a week.

Has anyone else seen or dealt with this before? Whats going on?

welcome to the g club. every few months they just mess with us... I've been #4 for my top keyword for the last year...now I'm bouncing between 10 and 5... last time this happened guess where I eneded up... #4. Sounds like you will settle down around 11-15..

For me I've seen my sites change PR daily for the last week. At different times of the day I get different results. Sites go from a 0 to a 3 (where they should be) and back to a 1 then 0 then back up to 3.

My theory would be they mix the order of results from time to time and check how many people click on it if is it in higher position, track some users via googlebar/analytics, if they go further on the page or if they just close windows after seeing the homepage etc.

They want to serve the most relevant results and who knows, what other tricks they have in the hat. Best way to get high ranking - make pages, where the user stays long and get what he wants. For exmaple recently they sandboxed few of my parking pages, although it lost me some income, I appretiate they do not list in their search results my sh*tty parking pages without any useful content for visitors.

I'm noticing a lot of daily shifts now. The "bigdaddy" update killed me in February. Was in first or second spot for nearly 4 years for my 1 big term and got bumped down to page #2 finally.

I'd fight to get it back but I don't care anymore. I don't think google traffic is going to be as valuable as it has been in the past. Long term your time is better spent domaining than trying to appease googlebot.
