Keywords versus "key phrases"

How can I use a two-word keyword search term for adsense? For example, if I want "Auto painting" as a search term, but I don't separately want "auto" and "painting", how do I identify the two words together as a single search term for determining which ads to display? Do I enclose the two words together in double quotes perhaps?

Also a similar but separate question: In my site's code, if I use:

<meta name="keywords" content="Auto painting, bodywork">

Is that considered three keywords, or two, with the former being a two-word search term? If it's treated as three separate keywords, can I enclose 'auto painting' in single quotes so it's treated as a single search term?

(P.S. I know modern search engines don't give much weight to the keyword meta tag, but I'd still like to know how to optimize it in this regard.)

Re: Keywords versus "key phrases"

To help you get more familiar with SEO in general I would suggest dowloading FireFox browser (if you're not already using it) and add the SEOpen Extension.

That will help you long term.

Also, as a guide, Think 15 commas in your Meta Keywords. So 16 keyword/phrases.

Re: Keywords versus "key phrases"

I'm not sure if my questions were clear about multi-word search terms. I've downloaded the firefox extension, worked with them a bit, still don't know how to identify the muti-word search terms (Separately on my site, and also for Adsense.)
