IMO, server Domain Pointers do NOT help SEO as the SE likely does not index them or even know about them on their own. However, it is possible to submit domain pointers maually to the SE's which may help as far as traffic goes if indexed and someone types an exact match into the search box (but not positive if Google accepts submitted pointers into the index)?
However, so called 'Masked Forwarding' allows you to use metatags, descr and title so it helps SEO a lot and the SE should be able to locate and index the domain on their own, and maintain its rank.
