MSN Search vs Google

The MSN search engine does a much better and faster job of indexing my web sites.

For example I have a site http://www.catsupplys.com which has been live about 3 months and have submitted it to both google and msn.

If I type 'catsupplys' into search.msn.com I get 2 pages of relevant links directly to my site. The same search in google and my page does not even come up (the .net does).

How can Microsoft do such a good job with MSN while Google fails miserably?

Re: MSN Search vs Google

it's been like this for ..roughly a year or so now. MSN returns more relevant, timely information.

Not sure whats going on at google, you know this isn't how they want it. Perhaps their working on a new algorythm or something. but for now, it's MSN's game.

I agree that msn is very fast and very thorough. For example, I moved my http://www.poochsite.com from parking, and within a pretty short time after it became a "real" site, it was showing up tops at msn with the correct slogan, while google was showing the parked slogan. My http://www.bytessite.com was the same for both search engines in terms of speed, but google did get there eventually, so I'm not complaining! Perhaps it's just when the web crawl happens? Anyone knows how often each of these does the crawl?

Lee, yes that seems to be the case. I have noticed that Yahoo is also better than Google in this respect.

Foodie, welcome to the forum. Yes Google does seem to be slower to index and some of my sites do show up but considering they have about 70% of the search market I would expect better results.

Re: MSN Search vs Google

so you guys are saying MSN has better more relevant searches than google? or are saying your sites get indexed easier on MSN?

Dont think you can compare google to msn IMO, google is way more advanced. Although they are going through some major changes.

Re: MSN Search vs Google

No, I agree google is way more advanced and gets used by way more folks. But msn is just quicker and more thorough. For example, I think they even index these forums.

So, what are these google changes?

BTW, I have both a google and yahoo beta ad. account. Been impressed with the yahoo beta. They actually called me to ask for my feedback. I told them I'm just small fish, but the person wanted to know my thoughts anyway. And then they emailed to follow up!

Re: MSN Search vs Google

Google is more advanced and takes much longer to get high in the SERPS.

MSN is much easier to get away with black hat seo and bull$$$$ sites.

Yahoo Index is playing more and more a part on the google index.

Get good with SEO and you will be fine. Try and cut corners and you won't get anywhere!

Re: MSN Search vs Google

I have a #1 spot on msn for the term free modernbill at the moment while over at google I am not even listed.
Like mentioned above I hope that they are working on some new type of system to help us non-blackhat seo'ers get listed much easier.

Re: MSN Search vs Google

I hate Google for this... and their "90 day sandbox" is terrible.

I'm #1 in MSN for "college baseball recruiting" and "baseball recruiting" and no where to be found on Google.. My site has been up for around 3 months... Google takes forever

Is this the first 90 days after they crawl your site of the first 90 days your domain is registered?

Re: MSN Search vs Google

There are endless factors involved in every single search engine directory the net has to offer. This thread can and will go on for ever if people require us to back up every statement with countless factors.

When in doubt keep trying to get higher in the SERPS, if "YOU" give up then you are only to blame.

Re: MSN Search vs Google

I think MSN and Yahoo do index a site much faster than Google, so build incoming links to your site and have patience to get indexed in Google.

WE, as domainers and developers, rule the internet. Google would be shit without US. We were around before google, and will be after google.
