    Re: Noob question!

PageRank is Google's patent pending technology that rates the "importance" of a given web page. PageRank is used by Google (among other things) to determine a page's rank on Google's query results page.

PageRank aka PR is one of the methods Google uses to determine the relevance or importance of a Web page. PageRank is a vote, by all the other Web pages on the Internet, about how important a Web page is. A link to a Web page counts as a vote of support. If there are no incoming links to a Web page then there is no support.

a score out of ten assigned by Google to each indexed web page. The visible result of the algorithm, but note that the 'public' PR is not the same as the 'true' PR and is only updated infrequently.

PageRank is a family of algorithms for assigning numerical weightings to hyperlinked documents (or web pages) indexed by a search engine. Its properties are much discussed by search engine optimization (SEO) experts. The PageRank system is used by the popular search engine Google to help determine a page's relevance or importance.

    Re: Noob question!

A higher PR is better, that's correct. And a domain with a good PageRank can
be very valuable, because you can sell textlink ads on that website. It's not
unusual that advertisers pay $30+ per month for one high quality PR5 link. And
prices increase quite fast for higher PageRanks.
