Overture keyword traffic vs .com traffic

All,

What difference -- in general, obviously -- does it make in the value of a domain, everything else being equal, if there is decent overture keyword traffic but no .com keyword traffic?

For instance, say I search Overture for insert domain here and it comes back with 458 hits. But I put in insertdomainhere.com and it comes back with none.

How much does that difference mean in terms of valuation?

Please tell me if I'm posting this in the wrong place, new user here.

Re: Overture keyword traffic vs .com traffic

If you are registering a name based on overture keyword traffic you are likely going to need to have your site listed in search engines to obtain some traffic.

Of course, when you have an overture for a domain with extension it improves the value of the domain greatly. This is because people have typed your domain in directly. You figure overture numbers are lower than actual as many people do not use the Overture toolbar.

Re: Overture keyword traffic vs .com traffic

Okay, that makes sense. I figured adding the .com would be a measure of type-in traffic.

Re: keyword traffic -- is there some special thing you need to do to get your site listed in search engines? I just assumed there were spiders or crawlers or something out there that would scoop up new domains.
