interesting question... What about unrelated sites and one with a PR4 domain? I'm also interested in this.
If you are new to domains and looking to buy, sell and learn about domains then you have come to the right place. DNForum is the largest domain name community on the internet and continues to grow every day. There are over 105,000 domainers on DNForum doing everything from buying domains, selling domains, learning about domains and discussing domains. Take a minute and Register.

If you have a bunch of sites with various content, and they are all hosted under the same host, so basically they either share an ip, or the ip is only one number off or something.
Will Google notice this or penalize for it?
For example, let's say that I'm going to have a network of sites regarding video games.. and I've got a cheats site, hardware site, etc. Will it matter that they are all under the same ip with different domain names? I want to link to them all together and increase the PR.
Thanks

I have a gaming news site, cheats site, and a gaming forum and 2 Hosting companys on the same IP. I hope google does not penelize this otherwise I may be in trouble.
How long have you had the network.. and has it had PR for awhile?Originally Posted by Kishin

I started the network about a month before the PR update. And at that point none of my sites had PR.So I have no way of knowing is there was an effect.Originally Posted by Jonathan
this has been talked about in a newsletter I recieve from www.webpronews.com , but I can't remember what the article said , maybe you can look in the archives there.
I'm suprised no one has responded with more information to this post.
Will google penalize you? I don't know.
Will these links help? I'm not sure if google will even factor these links into your rankings. I do know that different IP blocks are better for inbound links. Whenever possible get links from different IP blocks.
I am looking to purchase websites. View my DNF thread HERE
I am just wondering in big dat centers like ThePlanet and EV1 are the IP blocks the same? It seems a lot of people and webhosts have there servers there.Originally Posted by JonR
If the IP is the SAME then from what I understand, all sites on that IP COULD suffer if one is penalized.

That's a good point about the ip being penalized. I'm not too worried about that happening with my sites.
I'd like to think that the PR is just as "strong" regardless of the ip.
When Google was on webmasterradio.fm a few weeks ago,
I asked Google this very question.
The rep replied that they understand that many people may host with the same Hosting company, and so there is no penalty for this.
I think there is though.
Your mileage may vary.
Thanks, MH.
I guess having outgoing and ingoing links to and from sites that don't share ips can help ensure that the PR be strong.
It's still nice that Google said that.
Might want to listen to the archives - you won't hear my voice, but you'll hear Monte ask the question which I had posted in the live chat lounge.
Just want to clarify that PageRank in and of itself was not the topic raised, it was more of a generilization as a whole (- by that, consider value given to backlinks, pr ruboff, and everything else that matters, etc.)
So all in all. Should we spread out the sites on varies IP's or just hope for the best...?
having the same IP wont effect your PR, google and all search engines take into account that most people will have there website hosted through a company that shares 1 ip with a large number of sites. I have a number of sites with different PR levels on the same IP

Electrical Contractors, West Midlands, UK
Well yea your sites will be penalized in some way for having the same content especially if it is word for word but i have heard before somewhere that yes there will be further penalties if your website is located on the same ip address.
Well good luck
