There are certainly more generic domains available on .INFO than .COM. If Google treats both TLDs the same way, why not reg the .INFO rather than try to buy/catch the same .COM?
I have seen some seo sites that indicate the opposite ...that .info is not subject to the google sandbox or not for as long. However, I don't have any info sites which are fully developed so i couldn't confirm this from experience.
As promising as .info is in some cases, it still isn't a good fit for many names/sites ...particularly those that offer little in the way of info. Some of the .info names i have seen would have been better of with icouldntaffordthedotcom.info
