site traffic

a friend of mine has a site i may buy that gets 800,000 hits a year and scores in the 500 area on overture, it a "do you think im hot or not" site is this good traffic, not really interested in the site per se but just the traffic, could i benefit from this site as just a re direct page?

I'd expect the traffic to die down fast if you redirected it.

Also, you may want to find out how many unique hits there were.

Gromy knows his stuff when it comes to traffic and I agree with him 100% on that.

If you're inexperienced, then such a buy is likely to be unprofitable. Simply purchasing a url and redirecting it for traffic can work for a very limited amount of time and traffic would likely die down quickly as the repeat visitors will stop coming back once they understand that the site is discontinued in its current form. Hence the importance of finding out "unique" hits.

Second point to make is that "hot or not" traffic tends to be very low quality traffic. Its young people usually with lots of time to waste (not high disposable income) and diverse enough that it might be difficult to find a matching subject matter or product to generate sales from. Even PPC might be fairly low.

Really depends on sales price I guess but if you dont have a lot of experience then I would be very cautious about it and most importantly "do your research".

if 800,000 is unique hits thats almost 2,200 a day. If you got the site cheap you could put up a ppc page and make quite a bit of cash until the traffic died.
