Test of Bing and Google search results

I did a test to compare the search results between Bing and Google. The search was to determine the results based on the same search terms. Here are the results for a " " search and an open search.

Bing shows 1,270,000,000 results for:

"ABC", "AB-C", "AB C", ABC, AB-C, AB C

All the same.

Bing makes no difference based on what the exact search term is. I know it can't stay that way.

Google shows:

399,000 for "ABC"

546,000,000 for "AB-C"

8,760,000 for "AB C"

396,000 for ABC

546,000,000 for AB-C

522,000,000 for AB C

These numbers are not for the letters 'ABC'. ABC is used only as an example. The numbers are for a LLN domain.

How long before Bing changes this? I wonder if it's hurting their searches. If you can't trust the results why go back?

I agree, its far from being a threat on google at least for now. If they keep improving their ways especially on how their algo works, maybe they might have a chance someday.

You guys do realise Bing.com gained 9.41 percent of market in July, taking its combined share with new search partner Yahoo to 20.36 percent, right?

That's an increase on June's 8.23 percent. Google's share slipped to 77.54 percent from 78.48 percent.

Bing isn't in BETA in the US no more. Below are a few key pointers, when compared to Google.

1. Bing overlaps Google too much.

2. Bing is pretty close to Google (and Yahoo) on ranking.

3. Spam in search results: Bing 2.9%; Google 2.56%; Yahoo 4.9%.

4. Bing results seem to prefers keywords in the URL.

5. Bing seems to prefer pages where the term occurs with its first letter capitalized.

6. Bing returns results for the search term YOU enter instead of what they THINK you meant to enter, the way Google does. Bing also replaces titles in URLs listed in the search result less frequently than does Google.

7. Bing’s "page popularity" measure is different from Google’s PageRank.

In fact, I would go as far as saying Bing.com serves up better results than Google. I'd probably say it's just as good as Caffine.

Google must be feeling some pressure.

I recently noticed some TV ads for google. I can not recall the last time I saw that.

Bing has a very effective television campaign going.

Good info Sinfully Wicked. Bing hasn't been alive too long, has it? I like their homepage.

Two items caught my eye.

3. Spam in search results: Bing 2.9%; Google 2.56%; Yahoo 4.9%.

Why is the Yahoo number so high? Is it software or what?

5. Bing seems to prefer pages where the term occurs with its first letter capitalized.

We're talking about the beginning of a sentence or as proper names, right?

I like Bing - some of my sites are now getting more Bing traffic than Google traffic.

draggar, can you tell if it's US traffic and/or other countries. I'm wondering what effect Bing might have in other countries already.
