Re: What SEARCH ENGINE do UK or EU residents use?

Okay... so this thread has been running a while and had over 200 visitors and a few posters... you HAVE HAD to see the inevitable question and the purpose for this post by now.

This forum and 3 others, all commenting on the same post, has confirmed that Google is the Overwhelming search engine of choice around the World. Unarguably.

So then... WHY do we value domains based on Yahoo Searches (OVT)?

If the numbers we have seen in this "poll" hold true, then OVT shows LESS THAN 5% of the total search input or traffic.

    Just an interesting statistic.

Maybe because the good folk at Google guard their data more closely and Google Trends makes it more difficult to judge traffic. Ibid for Alexa to a certain degree. Finally there's the power of habit; just like "everyone" uses Google for actual searches, everyone seems to use OVT for valuing domains?
always buying domains with type-in traffic. all tlds.

I respectfully disagree on that point... I think more people use OVT to devalue domains than to value them. The same logic applies, if you can use OVT to bid a domain based on only 5% of it's potential, then you as a buyer have successfully devalued a domain and secured it for much less than you could/should have.

Also, Google DOES have a tool for evaluating searches and such. It's subscription based and apparently a big secret to alot of people. The numbers it generates for search results are so far beyond that of Yahoo in most every case, that the OVT Zombies quickly dismiss them, stuff their fingers deeply into their ears and scream "Wabble-wabble-wabble" at the top of their lungs.

A member here used their access to test a domain of mine... a domain that only showed around 200 OVT per month but showed over 200K searches on Google. HUGE difference.

I'm not using that information to corner a market that is virtually untapped with little or no competition. OVT cultists will NEVER find it but quite a few 1000 searchers per day do

I agree. BTW I've never relied solely on OVT; I didn't even understand what OVT referred to before I visited this forum (although I had used the overture keyword tool before).

Personally I've always relied on FGF v1.0 - beats OVT by just about every measure (famous gut feeling. Usually works, but doesn't always stop me from registering shi..y domains).

Google offcourse is leader but my site stats also show lycos being used by many europeans.

We must however understand who we are asking mostly technically sound people use google but there are many who like other engines as well.
