Nevertheless, it's how forums work. I'm a forum junkie. I've never seen paid mods. I've never even seen mods with benefits other than building respect and awareness.

You're talking about someone drawing out of an agreement on the price. MattyP and Snoopy are paying the full price, but if the price keeps going up because there's another higher bid (AFTER it has been agreed) there will never be a final price.

Well, basically you can argue that the mods contributions have served to increase the value of these boards considerably.

Yes, the community is pretty good here. But lets remember how it was before the mods got involved. If memory serves me correctly, the site was plagued with more than a few cranks.

Perhaps the issue of "compensation" should have been addressed up front. Or, maybe the mods contributed DUE to the fact that they knew Dan was a 16 year old kid, and genuinely wanted to help him out.

I assume that they wouldn't have been upset if he sold the sight to a third party, and offered them an option of first refusal (or similar). It seems that the reneged deal was the source of "outrage".

So sad that, as usual, money can split friends, family, etc., apart.

Realnames, many of us had a bad taste in our mouths when you started this "mods aren't that important" but wrote it off to some temporary confusion.

But you keep pressing, as if it *matters in any way*. I was one of the first 5 members on this board, and I can tell you that Dan has done a terrific job, but without the mods--and these specific mods--this place would have sunk into the ground.

Dan's 16, and he seems genuinely miffed that the mods were put out, and he's getting a very public education in public relations at least, and maybe loyalty at worst (maybe! dunno the full story). But where does that leave you realnames, looking pettier and pettier with each post.

Who cares what the exact ingredients were? Why does this matter?

This is totally what I didn't want to happen. It wasn't a bidding war at all in my opinion. The two mods showed interest in buying, I told them my asking price. They then offered another offer a good amount below my asking price. I brought it back up about 50% of the difference between my asking price and thier offer, and we were set on the price for then. Then a forum member offered quite a bit more. This was when I had to make some decisions. I thought, ask the two mods if they'd be willing to go a bit higher (my original asking price), which was totally my bad, before we got to talk again, they resigned. We were working against time zones, and work (of course assuming the mods had work, and my school/activities), so maybe partially they were impatient with me also, pm's going across about once a day back and forth.

First, did not know Onyx was MCJuice and don't even recall anything about MCJuice anyway.

I was not praising Onyx personally since I do not really know him, was only praising his Post, nothing more. Also, had no idea you seem to have a feud going with him.

Also, I never ever said that "mods aren't that important." Moderators are in fact very important. I said the Members are more important, that's what was meant, perhaps you misunderstood all of this.

Some of you members who are so against Dan and so loyal to the 3 retired Mod's are acting wrongly and need to act more mature. Funny thing is Namethink said I "need to grow up," contrarily it is he who needs to grow up with his BS about dnforum will close because the Mods left unhappy, and saying they were the value here, not the members.

Again read what Onyx said below. The departed Mods really deserve little more than a pat on the back, especially from a 16 yr old High School Sophomore, who at that age is prone to making errors in communications and is short on money too. Really give young Dan a break you guys.

Why are they now due compensation, no one twisted their arm to become a Mod. They likely did it more for recognition and stature, and to make contributions to the Web.

True, perhaps Dan made some errors in not selling it to them and asking for more money in the process. But it was his forum and he can ask whatever he wants and also change his mind and sell to anyone he wants too, even after making verbal promises. You may not like that but it's a fact. I still don't get it really, what is the compensation? Imo it's more sticking to the deal - to what's agreed. Unless compensation = bidding higher even after an agreed price then my sincere apologies to everyone.

Also, when you are 16 yrs old you may not really realize the importance of keeping your word, making and keeping a verbal deal, contractual arrangements, business deals, moral duties to friends or employees, etc. Were you guys who are so critical so much better at 16?

I am not saying this is so and do not even know for sure if Dan made a concrete promise to sell to Snoopy and Matt, as I was not involved in any way with that.

If Dan's word is so good why are you and a few other 'wackos' (you said it first) posting so negatively against Dan and defending the old Mods? Guys like aactive, duke of earl, dnpowerful and a few others are buddies of the 3 old Mods. In fact, they are all actively posting on the old Mods new Board even as we speak.

Likely trying to damage the proposed sale here with their nasty accusing and untrue BS Posts, so dnforum will decline and the new one is successful.
