He lost well over $4,000 in electronics and the only things that were not killed (in bul) were items plugged into his APC surge protector. The protector itself (literally) burned and melted but the electronics, including the plugs, were 100% fine.
Not to be outdone, last weekend some bad storms went though the Palm Beach area in Florida. This is the area I service for my company's IT department.
3 of my stores were hit (well, two were shocked, only one was directly hit) by lightining (no word from the communications hubs). Total loss? 2 APC surge arrect surge stations. Total work? Replace them (I had extras in my van) and reboot two network switches, reboot one router, and one virtual content machine and reconfigure a few pieces of equipment.
Because of the surge protectors there was no major loss of equipment. I was sold on APC before but this just adds in more evidence that they are top notch.![]()

I use an APC SmartUPS 750 on my desktop and for my home theater I use a top of the line Furman to protect my NAD T785, Velodyne HGS-18 sub, Martin Logan Vantages surronds and Motif center channel. Yes, it rocks...and yes all is well protected
