Do you run an online store?

Does anyone here run an online store that sells products that would interest young teenagers?

You can always run Amazon Web Services (AWS) and sell products.

I used to own one but sold it after getting some sales.

Re: Do you run an online store?

Well, the reason I ask is this..
I have a bulletin board that gives out points as users post.
I want the users to be able to purchase prizes with their points; and I was looking to setup a relationship with someone who had an online store.
Something along the lines of they get and fulfill the orders, and just charge it to my credit card.

    Oh Correct.
What prizes you want them to purchase? All from your site?

Or different sites like ebay, etc.

That will require a custom mod.

Re: Do you run an online store?

Well the orders would have to be all be from one site, the way I have it setup.
I think basically, when someone placed an order; instead of it going to me, it would go to whatever site I was able to set up an agreement with. That site (who would already have my billing info on file),would bill me, then send out whatever product to the end user.

My site is related to punkrock, and most of my users are 13-17 and is mixed about 60/40 - male/female, so prizes would be things oriented towards that group.

Anyone know of anyone starting an online punk/goth/alternative store that could use some extra business and some free advertising?

Well , Why dont you do this?
Get some products as a db (database) listed on your site.

With certain amount of points they get that product.

You get a email with the guys username and which product he wants.

Then you purchase it and send it to him with your cc.

Thats the best and easiest idea.

I will throw another idea at you , purchase an item that you think might be of interest in general and auction it off on the forum for your forum dollars , this gives your forum dollars value.

Re: Do you run an online store?

I was actually thinking about going that way; but i'm concerned about sending someone something that may or may not have my personal information in it, such as a credit card number or billing address.
I was thinking I could avoid that situation at Amazon, because I believe they have a "send as gift" option; but I need to experimnet with that to see exactly what the recipient is receiving.

Re: Do you run an online store?

Basicaly you still are not getting the point:

here it goes just for clarification:

    Heres an example:

I am a user in your forums and have 3000 points. Then i have 3 choices i could get for 3000 points.

I make one choice and fill out the full form (form will be a backened system) and then i get a reply via email that my order is having a look by the admin and i will be updated in maximum 48 hours. You get the point now.

Then the email comes to you with the guys nickname, all billing details and so.
You purchase that product from amazon with your details and just ship it to his address.

Then you email me telling me that the order is being processed and i will get the product in maximum amount of days.

And then this is how it goes.

Most and important thing is , it will just require a backened system for products and database and just fill out the form.

I think this is the best idea, any other questions feel free to post.

I have went through the detail =).

Re: Do you run an online store?

I like the idea of an auction; that sounds really cool.
I'm just a little concerned because I have users overseas; and I know every country has different rules regarding receiving items from the USA.
I'd hate to send someone a free prize that they end up having to pay customs taxes on. I also wouldn't want to pay 20$ to ship a 15$ item to Tokyo.

It does sound like a great idea though. I bet I could even find an auction MOD for my board that would work with the point MOD I have.

No I think I see what you are saying.
I basically order the item from Amazon, and have the billing info be me, and the shipping address be the end user? Won't the user then receive a package with a receipt that has all my billing info on it?

Also, I'm trying to avoid having to physically ship a lot of items myself.
I'll be on the road a lot, and while I can easily administer the board from Hong Kong; it's not quite as easy to ship out products.
The auction system avoids this, because I can set the ship date to a time when I know I'll be home.

That's kinda why I was looking for someone who already had an online store.
They already know what they are doing

As far as am understanding heres basicaly what you mean and so:

You buy the product the customer wants

You get it shipped at your place.

And then ship it to your place.

That will take time and double the money i guess.

Re: Do you run an online store?

    Yeah, I guess you're right. But I think I found a sollution.
I've found an online store that offers the kind of items my users would be interested in.
They also sell gift certificates that are shipped to an e-mail address.
Those gift certificates seem perfect.. nothing physical is actually being shipped.

    Thanks for all your help,
    Trev

Re: Do you run an online store?

trevorhoare, I am currently building an online store now. It will be up within the upcoming days. However, If you contact me via pm and let me know what type of products you are interested in selling on your site /through your site, I could give you pictures and prices of everything I got. From small electronics, to clothing, to fragrances... things like that.
