Does it take a while to get into the database. Its kinda unfair that they start the countdown if noone else can see it, if thats the case

every 7 hours listings are updated...
look at the bottom of the lising page to see last time updated...then, check exact time your auction started...

Not like it matters anyway, its not really worth making a bid until the last several hours anyways.
I believe auctions are actually live instantly. However, the search and listing database used to generate pages is not updated constantly, but only every few hours.
