    domain sales site software...

I have recently been made aware of the potential market for a decent domain sales solution (thanks avs )

I am toying with the idea of creating such a solution in PHP. but before i start development i would need to know what kind of features people would find useful that they have perhaps been unable to find so far or simply something they have seen but feel would be improved by some minor changes...

also would people like to use a domain site that lists only their domains or perhaps allow for a second level where 3rd party members are able to list their domains for sale as well (either for a sellers fee or simply to increase the traffic through the site).

some ideas i have had myself that people may want to comment on or even add their own ideas to are...

skinable site design(custom site headers/footers & colour schemes).
available as a self install or pre-hosted site.
custom plug-in modules such as domain registration, who-is, advertising & expiring domain features to complement the main site content and provide an extra revenue stream to take advantage of traffic brought in from your refferal domains.

and would people prefer built-in checkout functionality or to arrange the payment method themselves once the sales dialogue was opened? or perhaps to provide a paypal checkout solution for all orders below a minimum prices and to handle larger orders by hand.

I look forward to hearing everyones opinions on this...

    If it were me...

I'd be sure to make it so that individuals could install the script on their own sites, and I'd include a "bidding" feature, where people can submit offers "live", and see what the current high bid is. I'd probably want to be able to pre-screen/authorize bidders to prevent bogus bids. I'd want to have to option to enable/disable those features you mentioned. I'd want to be able to create hyperlinks so people can click from other sites to make offers on a particular domain name, and then be able to also see information on other related domain names I had available. I'd like customers to be able to sort domains by category, length, TLD, traffic, price, etc. I'd like to be able to insert a hyperlink into the domain name listing that opens a pop-up window to a separate page or site where I can include more information, etc. It would be nice to have a "new listing" feature to draw attention to new domains. I'd like it to be very affordable (less than $50.00).

I just bought the script from proPHP, but here are some things that would be nice to have:

    • Multiple search & sort options (price, length, TLD, etc.)
    • Hyperlink to whois for the domain (to access expire dates)
    • Hit counter for domain pages
    • Easily customizable pages
    • Fixed price, offer, or auction with deadline
    • checkbox changes to multiple listings (deletions, categories, prices, etc.)
    • Mixed case listing (similar to Afternic - i.e. BigRedTruck.com)
    • Whois transfer info entry on purchase (registrant, admin, technical, etc.)
    • categories & subcategories

Sounds like a do-able project... might consider doing it - and include all the features. $50 pricing may be too little though - is $75 reasonable? Same price, more features
