Re: Finally out of the military

It certainly takes a lot of courage to serve in the US military these days, I would think. Regardless of how anyone feels about the war in Iraq or any other US policies the bottom line is that men and women like yourself have chosen to serve their country and that is something that can never be looked down upon.

P.S. did you ever see one of those creepy Camel Spiders over there? Man those things freak me out and I have only seen pictures and videos...

Re: Finally out of the military

No disrespect to anyone in the military but I always resisted joining up to any military group. There's no doubt a time for war, Hitler had to be stopped as do many other meglomaniac monsters. I'm not a pacifist as lunatics like Hitler could not be stopped by waving flowers it just always seemed to me that when any of us sign up we're signing over our wills to invariably dishonest war hungry politicians free to do with us as they please. Sorry if this goes against the grain of this thread but thats how I feel.

What a load of crap....most people serve in these organizations for money and benefits or because they couldn't get a decent job otherwise.....why do you feel so many immigrants head for the US military...to serve their country the USA...don't make me laugh...

Anyway, Roc congrats....I was never in the military but spent over ten (10) years as a cop and I know how you feel knowing all this will be behind you...I celebrated for many days when my time came......

    Cheers...

For the ones who "think" they know everything, here is something that you should change your mind about:

It goes against the grain. Most of us had signed up before and after the first and second gulf war. We didnt support what decisions the politians wanted, we supported our country for our friends and family. But by military law, we have to do what our boss said, just like the real world. Our boss in the military is the "Chief Executive Officer" which is the highest in the military. So like the real war, you have to do what you are told.

Not all people were poor. Some were young criminals that need a light spanking. Others familys were in the military and carrying on the tradition. Some were patriotic and others wanted to learn about the world and protect the USA. So why did you become a cop?

hi, have you killed a lot of people?

if so, do u feel sick of that or no?
Why dont you tell us your personal trauma? Tell us how you have sex with your partner. Go ahead and write it here for the world to see. I think that you dont understand much about life. Having the feeling inside that you took a living person out of the world and away from his family is a terrible feeling. To ask such questions is not a good idea. cool?

I'd just like to add one thing. Most people DO join for the benefits, education, etc, as I did, but once you're in, you're in. Its not as simple as putting in your 2 week notice with an employer. I did what I was told and that was that. I was lucky enough to work Law Enforcement as a patrolman and then as a Desk Sergeant. Many of my collegues were security guards for nuclear weapons and to them it was just a day to day job that really sucked but those guys are the reason that Bin Laden doesnt just waltz in and take the nukes. If they come, they are always ready for them. These are the guys that America should thank on a daily basis. One of the nuclear weapons will bury itself 1 mile into the ground upon impact and the fallout will reach halfway across the country.

Poverty had nothing to do with it....opportunities, benefits...etc...hope the US Military isn't employing young criminal that need a light spanking...

Quote Originally Posted by MobileDesigner View Post

Because I was young and needed a stable job that would help put me through university and pay the bills....that was also pensionable and there were so much perks associated with the job (the intangibles) like credit facilities, easy loans etc, good treatment from others etc...

As Roc said when you go in, most people don't have this idealistic attitude that you all think but as you begin to serve and are exposed to the creeps and criminals of this world, you want to do more and you fall in love with the job....you're neglecting your family, yourself etc...I was a Detective and would sometimes spend a whole week 24/7 away from home dealing with a serious crime.....it affects your family life big time.....

Then you realize that it is consuming your whole life.....

When this happen its time to hand over the baton...and the relief is something else....euphoric.....plus what is the sense in having a degree in Computer Science and working with a guy who has none and he is being paid more than you...cause he is your superior. Our pay structure was that you were paid according to rank not qualifications.
