I've been to Shenzhen once, but that was back in 1986 I guess. Everywhere I went was under construction then. That was the first and only time I visited a place presumably called my motherland.

I later lived in the rural area of Hong Kong very close to Shenzhen, so close that I can actually see the highrises there. I lived in a Spanish style bungalow then. Quite some contrast.
