    Angry Generic Domains

People need to get this into their heads: mysmellysockcollection.com is NOT a generic domain; 2plus2equals4.com is NOT a generic domain name; funnyphotosofcrabs.com is NOT a generic domain name!

software.com is generic, fast.com is generic, etc

Please learn what is generic and what isn't and please stop posting sales threads calling all of your domains generic when they aren't

    Re: Generic Domains

Agreed. There are three types of domains:

    1. Specific (i.e. windowsxp.com)
    2. Generic (i.e. software.com)
    3. Brandable (i.e. google.com, yahoo.com)

Actually there are a few more. Feel free to add.

    Re: Generic Domains

I believe most people think the term Generic refers to domains that are a descriptive term or something that can have many uses.

As such, I suppose it is descriptive of an entire group or class ;-)

    health insurance
    generic drugs
    retirement
    new york

    Re: Generic Domains

in one for sale thread, the domain was bookobsession.com and the seller called it generic...that is one clear example of a domain that is not generic...

Yes, that is generic because you know what it is - a forum for teenagers. Teensbored.com is not generic because you can only guess at what it could be/has been turned into.
