Agreed. There are three types of domains:
1. Specific (i.e. windowsxp.com)
2. Generic (i.e. software.com)
3. Brandable (i.e. google.com, yahoo.com)
Actually there are a few more. Feel free to add.![]()
4. Crappy (i.e. mypetfemalearmadilloseggs.com)
:-D
I believe most people think the term Generic refers to domains that are a descriptive term or something that can have many uses.
As such, I suppose it is descriptive of an entire group or class ;-)
I also think some beleive anything but trademarks are generics, just for kicks we should post 10 names and ask people to rate which are generic and which arent I bet stats would be all over the board.
how about these
child support
health insurance
generic drugs
retirement
new york
europe vacation
camera phone
diabetes doctor
pay perclick search
quads

for example what is teensboard.com? generic with 2 words?
in one for sale thread, the domain was bookobsession.com and the seller called it generic...that is one clear example of a domain that is not generic...

Next projects: Torontojobs.com and Jobs.ca
Yes, that is generic because you know what it is - a forum for teenagers. Teensbored.com is not generic because you can only guess at what it could be/has been turned into.Originally Posted by cogeek
