Country: | Seriously, you guys should think a lot harder about this particular subject, particularly those of you being glib about it. There's a very real possibility that the Internet could one day go down, for any number of reasons.
Natural disaster, digital warfare, totalitarian governments, zombie uprising, etc.
Think of it that way, and then think "What will I do for a living if that happens?"
Thankfully, I have a a few other trades up my sleeve. I just don't do them because I'm a lazy SOB.
I could go back into small events management, or even high end bartending. I'd probably still be there if the internet didn't exist.
I also used to make beer money selling stock photos. No reason I couldnt' get back into that. Without the internet though, digital cameras probably wouldn't have gotten to the point they're at now, so I may not have been into photography as much.
Alternatively, I could have actually gone and done a cadetship at a newspaper. |

(Movie anyone?)
The internet runs out lives now and it's scares the heck out of me.
It is to the point you can live an entire life, even get married and have children, and never leave your home.
I get paid with direct deposit. I use a check card or a credit card for my purchases. I pay tolls with a Sunpass. I do bank transactions online. Where is my money? I actually went to the bodega down the street yesterday to buy a half gallon of milk and I realized it was the first time I used cash to buy something in well over 2 months.
The internet is also invaluable to me in my job (IT). I am constantly on IM, email, and web sites looking up solutions or learning. I also do web sites for some people along with small time domaining.
The internet - it's a double edged sword.

If those disasters happened, Walmart would cut back and I would lose my greeter's job anyway.

Country: | I'd be wishing something like the internet would be invented.
Seriously, I already have a regular job, the internet (domains) is something that has helped generate extra cash - not replace a job for me yet. So if there was no internet, I'd probably be looking more at other ways make more money, like stocks, real estate, work at home deals, etc.
Technology is great, but it's also nice to know how to do something in the 'real' world, like fix a car, work on a house or garden, etc. I don't think a lot of kids are growing up learning tangible skills these days... even things like fixing a flat tire. |

Country: | Perish the thought, since I work for an Internet company! But for me, it's more than that, it's how I communicate with friends, how I keep on top of the news. Without it, I'd probably go back to my old hobby which was theater - that was my outlet before the Internet came along.

Then I would return to the money making machine I was about to launch...before I got side-tracked with this domaining...lol
