Since last night, it seems we have been under one tornado warning after another and coming in with great frequency now. Some describe this as "Box Cars" in that one storm after another along a line just keep coming.
Now we are dealing with a deluge of water dumping on the local scene at a rate of more than 4 inches per hour.
Me and the dogs are safe and ready to hunker down in the root cellar if need be.

I was watching CNN when they jumped in and said if you are in Winston Salem you need to take cover now.
That caught my attention.
Rain so hard it sounded like hail against the window but it was simply rain whipped up by wind blowing sideways.

The latest alert is this cell, already produced tornadoes, now along the same line heading northwest with the other cells.
That classic kidney bean shape is not cool. This is in Statesville, NC.

11 tornado warnings since 1:40 pm this afternoon.
23 tornado warnings last night from about 7:30 pm to about 3:30 am.

Yeah, I have seen it.
We are getting confirmation for NWS out of Blacksburg VA and Raleigh NC.
Reports of several confirmed EF1 tornadoes last night and today.
Watching one right now that is moving this way at 63mph.
I think I will get closer to the shelter for a while.

Just heavy rain at the moment, roads flooded all through downtown, roads closed due to high water, told my wife not to even try to come home from work for a while, all post-school extracurricular activities canceled, and so on.
Heavy interstate traffic from I-40, I-77, I-73, I-74, rte 52 stalled and barely crawling from what news traffic cams are showing.

Was there last night, on the sixth floor of a motel, near stratford.
And I can vouch for the storms.
It was quite wicked.
