Are the MEMBERS of dnforum getting enough credit in your posts?

I am sad to see and can appreciate so many members being upset over the 3 excellent Moderators 'retiring,' Lord knows they did a great job here and contributed to dnforum's success tremendously.

HOWEVER, you guys seem to be greatly overlooking the fact the reason this forum has been so successful and has: Registered Members: 1,211. Total Posts: 37,475. Total Threads: 5,405, is MOSTLY due to the Membership itself and all the excellent posts made here.

Though the 3 Mod's contributed significantly, they only made a small fraction of the knowledge posts here. One of the mod's in particular rarely posted any knowledge of his own, (with long periods of no posts), and then occasional comments on other posts, though he still did a good job overall.

Please remember it is the MEMBERS who made dnforum so great. You may be giving way too much credit to the 3 Mod's, though again they did a great job overall

Also, it's possible the cause of all of this may have been a communications problem, and nothing sinister.

    Ugh

I think it's assumed that the members have made this place, but as someone else pointed out, the *mods* and the members have made this place.

As we all learned over at Aftershite, good members need to be reigned in, and it takes a special hand to know when to dive in, and when to hold. These three guys are really good at it. It's been a process, and the results are now showing.

without proper moderation, this forum would have probably turned into something similar to afternic..

Could not have put it any better.

Anyone who's been a member of multiple forums is no doubt familiar with how quickly a forum can degenerate, either through over-laxity, or over-moderation. These guys are indeed "really good at it."

The reason there are so many members here...and members willing to post...is becase of the professional environment created and maintained by mattyp, safe and snoopy. Their work here has been of tremendous value.

It's quality moderation that attracts and keeps quality posters. Moderators are not really here to offer great insights or information. They are here to keep the trolls and flamers and abusive posters from running out the quailty posters. To keep law and order. Without moderation, good moderation, you just have a nuthouse with very poor quality posts.

So yes, the great members here are responsible for the quality content, but it wouldn't exist without the environment provided by the quality moderation.

The impact and affect of good moderation can never be overestimated.
