Good points JP, but not everyone is on FB or Twitter, and by only using those accounts a business is limited by what FB and Twitter give you. You need to have your own website to have total control. In effect you are a hostage to the social media system, and they can do what they want with your account and info if they choose to. Facebook is great but people aren't on there to run around and check business pages. Social media is a tool businesses should use, but most still need a website.

I don't disagree with you about that tools business "should" use, and the potential disaster of giving control to media site owners, but those decisions were made back in 2009/2010, and you're playing violins on the deck of the Titanic at this point. The vast majority of online time shifted to facebook and twitter over a year ago.

From a business standpoint, "everyone" -IS- on fb and twitter, with the only holdouts being the very elderly or very low income, and neither of those groups are relevent as consumers.

and those who take issue with Facebook mishandling (on a regular, recurring basis) their privacy which most FB users already consent to giving up on an extreme level.

A domain name, and associated web site, is generally a privately managed property - vs. FB where one places explicit and complete trust (and power of selling potential client information, albeit in presumably an aggregate fashion) to any competitor who wishes to drill down into your client base.

(Yes, I have qualms in putting all my eggs... business or personal, into the FB basket)

    IMHO, of course,
