The only safe way of making a transaction is using an escrow service. Dealing with verified paypal members you can be assured of the persons identity ( unless the account has been comprimised ) and that's it.

When using PayPal for a domain sale or purchase there really is no protection because it is considered an intangible good.
what would happen if you mailed the person the auth code by registered mail. Would this be enough to classify the item as tangible?
anyone care to offer their thoughts or experiences?
Thanks

thats not going to help with paypal. The only thing I have done that isn't really honest but for my own protection is send a CD via certified mail to the buyer to the confirmed address on the paypal account. This allowed me to use the tracking number for the transaction.

does anyone have information that the above method will not work??
how is sending a cd any different than sending an auth code?
Ask paypal.
I have, I'm waiting for a response.
wondering if anyone else has done anythign similar.
If you sold a domain through Paypal and mailed a tangible item such as a software CD through the postal service, it's considered fraud as far as PayPal is concerned, It's also considered "Mail Fraud" with the post office (I checked). It's not that different when buying a stereo system on Ebay and receiving a box of bricks, Yeah the buyer has your domain, but only you and the buyer know it.
If you claim you sold software, you cant go back and later claim you sold a domain, The buyer can RETURN the CD with delivery confirmation and still have the charge reversed.... In the end, the only one who gets screwed is you.

Paypal doesn't have a great track record of dealing with chargebacks or disputes. If you don't know who your deailing with escrow is still the best choice. Best not to play games.
