Please. Realnames, obviously, you are the "rumored" buyer. I'm going to ask you three simple questions, and how (and if) you answer them will show for me, and probably many others, your integrity and seriousness as a businessman (and note that I do not ask for specific monetary details): 1) Are you the "rumored" buyer? 2) Did you make a monetary offer to Dan to buy DNForum.com? 3) Did Dan accept your offer? Realnames, you can, of course, refuse to answer these questions. But since you've seen fit to take me task for simply telling things like I saw them (in a calm and civil manner, no less), I'd like to see why you've taken such a strong and personal interest in this "rumored" buyer's business all of a sudden. Three question, Realnames. Let's see what kind of a businessman you really are. Miles

| David | More details later, likely on 9-12 I can neither confirm or deny any of this at this time. P.S. Miles, you first were unbusinesslike and insulting to me by saying "grow up."

I say sell it while there's an interest in it. You may never get another offer like it. Enjoy being young. It doesn't last long!

Here's a good example: A guy I used to work worth was unhappy at his current salary. He interviewed with another company and came back to his current company and said "They're offering me THIS, can you match it?" The company said, "Let's think. Yes, yes we can match that. We don't want to lose you." When he went back to the new company, they made him another offer. He went "Oh! Ok... wow." He then went back to his previous company and told them, "Now they're offering me THIS much." The company had to then say, "If you want to leave, then leave. Sorry you feel that way." When I talked to my supervisor, he was feeling hurt that it was clear the employee must not have really wanted to stay. The problem was this couldn't be further from the truth, but even over 25, this guy was having this same issue we've seen played out here. It's not necessarily age, but character, experience, and clarity at play here. He LIKED working for his current company, but he also wanted the money, and I believe a part of him liked feeling "wanted" like that by two parties. He's a pal of mines, but I think he did the wrong thing in this case. He should have simply said how much he wanted from the GET GO. Once you make it clear that MONEY is more important than your relationship, you can't blame what is inferred from that by those with whom your supposedly related. After the return bid, my company didn't even want him back. Somehow it was like someone had spit on them and devalued that bond. They'd rather go hire someone who wanted to work with them. So... that said, I cannot blame the Mods for realizing "what time it was". Good moderators (not to mention FREE ones) are hard to find. Not many people will dedicated themselves to someone else's benefit unless they feel they have a good strong relationship with that person. As of now, I'm not sure what kind of person it would take to make that sacrifice based on current events. They may be out there though. W|Z

Age can excuse some behavior, but at some point you must assume responsibility and stand by your agreements. 16 is a good age to start acting like an adult. BD

Though 16 year olds do not know how to negotiate. A 16 year old negotiating against some one who is a professional with years more experience (not to mention probably close to twice his age?) isn't exactly like a completely equal negotiation amongst adults. You have to cut Dan some slack. It's obvious Dan's learned a lesson by now. He's going to remember this the next time he's in a situation like this and in my opinion he's already made an admirable attempt to assume responsibility by posting this thread. So why press on and on to make this a learning experience for him or further show you he is assuming responsibility?

I'm not too sure about the "taking advantage of" argument. After all, who knows what dnforum.com is really worth anyway? Anandtech is a large forum with some similarity, and they had to charge subscriber fees to stay afloat. In today's Internet economy, value is hard to determine. Ad revenue ain't what it was two years ago. And although I feel that the honorable thing to do is to try going back and honoring the deal with MattyP, that's easy for me to say as it's not my money on the table. This forum will live and change. Life on the Internet is rather transient anyway... Cheers, BD ![]()

DNF$: 2,454 Location: Southern California | Contracts with minors A sixteen year old can change his mind and make a contract NULL even if it's in writing. This public policy is to protect minors from entering into unfair negotiations, etc... The law protects minors from being taken advantage of due to their lack of knowledge about contracts and finances. Minor may disaffirm or affirm the contract after he turns 18. Also, under UCC 2-201, sale of goods over $500 requires the agreement to be in writing. |

| Guest | eCommando, you are exactly right. I wasn't going to bring it up the other day, but now that Dan's age is public knowledge, contract law should perhaps be mentioned here, specifically the ability of minors to contract and the statute of frauds. Legally, Dan is fine. I would hope everyone here will cut him some slack on the whole "honor" thing. Dan was born in 1986, for hecks sake. I didn't have a damn clue what I was doing when I was 16, and I suspect no one else here did either. Dan, if you want or need any free legal advice (remember, you get what you pay for , pm me.grabby |

| Platinum Lifetime Member | dan is 16 this was a shock as the proffessionalism he has demonstrated and the abilitys he possess are far ahead of his age. lets try to assist the guy in whatever way we can as opposed to second guessing him. This site if it disappeared tomorrow has provided a launching point for many and has been invaluable to me personally. dan should be congratulated and thanked for this and we should hope for continuation but more so be gratefull for the opportunites presented to date. no matter what dan decides to do with the site, i believe he will condider all options carefully, he will become a very successful person overall in his pursuits. when i was 16 i was considering how to get the car keys and who was buying the beer. we should all pay 50 bucks a year for membership. That way dan earns some dollars and keeps his asset. i would gladly pay 50 per year and suspect anyone who wouldnt hasnt been here long or cant read. i would even consider buying the site but dont have the amazing tolerance and time required to make it something special. got to be some way to make everyone happy or at least dan and the majority sean i need spell checker as well |
