Corporate greed will not stop until they have full control of the people and they are comfortable without the need to be scared of the very people that make them filthy rich. 1984 suddenly doesn't seem so utopistic, except that the big brother(s) will actually have names like Goldman Sachs, Viacom etc.

I was actually thinking more; "Hey, here's another threat/doom/apocalyptic bill/proposition/whatever that will kill the internet!" and then a month later it's forgotten..

Well, people like Rupert Murdoch (News Corporation, second largest media in the world) thinks that Google is the evil, as he posted it in his Twitter:

"Piracy leader is Google who streams movies free, sells advts around them. No wonder pouring millions into lobbying."

Be sure that these billionaires (just Murdoch has US$7.6 billion) will do whatever to make their empire stronger. They will only rest if they become the mini-dictators of the Internet, and will be able to take down any website they like within days (even if they are wrong).
