I never cease to be amazed in this business.
If you are new to domains and looking to buy, sell and learn about domains then you have come to the right place. DNForum is the largest domain name community on the internet and continues to grow every day. There are over 105,000 domainers on DNForum doing everything from buying domains, selling domains, learning about domains and discussing domains. Take a minute and Register.
Register Today on DNForum IT'S FREE!I am planning a couple of wine-related web sites for next year and this evening I picked up a third name that dropped just a few minutes before, WineTalk.net. I will use it as a standalone forum that will link to the other two sites (one about American wine and one that will be a guide to wine shops around the world).
The odd thing I noticed was that WineTalk was gone in .COM, .NET (after I took it), .ORG .INFO and.... .WS and .CC.
Someone took those latter two while the .BIZ And .US were still open. Wine is a worldwide passion so I can see where the .US would be limited, but it is still a much better country code than .WS or .CC. I really don't understand them leaving a worldwide Top Level Domain - .BIZ (though I am not really a .BIZ fan) -and paying more to take one of those weird country codes that are practically a business death sentence!
I never cease to be amazed in this business.

I own a few .ws but not .biz or .us, but there's a reason!
Not that I don't want to register them, but I just can't. There are restrictions in .us (US citizen/business related only) and .biz (business only). And these restrictions are hurting the resale market too... I saw a few good .us in ebay that I can't bid on
In fact, .cc and .ws are more popular than many ccTLDs like .fr, .cn, .se... (surprise! surprise!)

Weren't .ws and .cc available before .biz and .us? I recall seeing those extensions around long before I saw .biz, .us or .info.
that's right. people regged .cc & .ws during the .com boom and it still isn't expired.
sometimes .you see other name is avail e.g. .net or .org because it was regged before .cc & .ws, so it's expired first.
dkny, jalapeno and 888 - you all make excellent points that I should have realized. That would certainly explain it. At least now I won't be scratching my head over these choices so often that blood is spurting out of my scalp!
